Nastyukhin Injured, Folayang Vs. Alvarez Added To World Grand Prix
Eduard “Landslide” Folayang and Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez have joined the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix following an injury to Timofey Nastyukhin.
The Russian was due to face Honorio “The Rock” Banario in the tournament semifinals at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES, but a serious knee injury has forced him to withdraw from the bracket.
Now, the former three-time ONE Lightweight World Champion and four-time mixed martial arts Lightweight World Champion will go to battle on Friday, 2 August in Manila, Philippines.
Whoever wins in the Mall Of Asia Arena will move on to face Saygid “Dagi” Guseyn Arslanaliev in the World Grand Prix final at ONE: CENTURY on Sunday, 13 October.
Banario will remain on the card, and he will face “Crazy Dog” Dae Sung Park, who is fresh off a knockout win against Kimihiro Eto at ONE: MASTERS OF DESTINY on Friday, 12 July.
ONE: DAWN OF HEROES will also feature both ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix semifinals as Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson returns to face Tatsumitsu “The Sweeper” Wada and Danny “The King” Kingad meets Reece “Lightning” McLaren.
The card will be headlined by two World Title match-ups as Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon challenges Jonathan “The General” Haggerty for the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship, and Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen defends his ONE Featherweight World Championship against Koyomi “Moushigo” Matsushima.
