Riski Umar is from Ternate, a small island in the North Maluku province. He describes himself as a wild child who was always making trouble, and lacked purpose and direction in his early life. In fact, he says that drove him to live by himself in the jungle for some excitement.
However, a passion was sparked when his older brother taught a young Umar taekwondo spinning back kicks. Despite that early interest in martial arts, Umar did not act upon it until later, when he found himself wanting more than running a food stall in Jakarta. He began researching Muay Thai training camps, and was inspired by what he saw. That led him to a training stint in Thailand, and a permanent move to train at Bali MMA full time.
Now sharpening his skills daily at Phuket’s famed Tiger Muay Thai, Umar is growingly increasingly confident in his skills, and is determined to make an international breakthrough in the ONE Championship cage.
