Martin Nguyen To Defend Belt Against Koyomi Matsushima At ONE: DAWN OF HEROES

Martin Nguyen Koyomi Matsushima

Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen will return to action in Manila, Philippines to defend his ONE Featherweight World Championship against the division’s top contender.

The Vietnamese-Australian will make his third World Title defense against Japan’s Koyomi “Moushigo” Matsushima at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES, which emanates from the Mall Of Asia Arena on Friday, 2 August.

Nguyen was last seen in action in April when he hit one of the best knockouts in ONE history. He finished Mongolian icon Narantungalag “Tungaa” Jadambaa with an incredible walk-off flying knee in the second round.

That match-up was the 30-year-old’s first after nine months, but he showed no signs of rust as he rounded off a dominant performance with that stunning strike.

Now, just four months removed from his last appearance, the Hard Knocks 365 representative should be even sharper and more finely-tuned to face his next challenger.

Matsushima became an instant contender in his ONE Championship debut last September when he knocked out former ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov within a round.

Although the next several months were plagued by injury, the Japanese athlete returned with a dominant performance against “Pretty Boy” Kwon Won Il, which earned him a win by unanimous decision.

The 26-year-old showed a strong ground game in that contest. Combined with a top-class striking arsenal from his background in karate, the Shooto Welterweight Tournament Champion should pose a big challenge to Nguyen.
