Japanese mixed martial arts legend Yushin Okami’s first martial art was judo, and he dreamed of one day winning a gold medal in the discipline at the Olympic Games. But along the way, he began to pursue a career as a pro wrestler and took up mixed martial arts in order to develop his skills. As part of his training, Okami won a mixed martial arts tournament at the age of 19, and he loved the experience so much he decided to dedicate his life to becoming a mixed martial artist instead.
Okami made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2002, and he embarked on an extraordinary career that saw him become one of the best Japanese competitors of all time. He has competed in the some of the world’s leading promotions against superstars the likes of the legendary Rich “Ace” Franklin, and now he takes his undeniable talent and veteran experience to the global stage of ONE Championship.
The man they call “Thunder” is a well-rounded athlete with a strong grappling base. Besides holding a black belt in judo, he is also accomplished in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, having twice won the Japan ADCC qualifier in the Open Weight class. After a long, decorated career, Okami is out to show that he is the strongest he has ever been today, and he intends to compete for the ONE Welterweight World Title as soon as possible.
