Six-time Philippine National Wushu Champion Gina Iniong is originally from Baguio City, and was born into a large family being the eighth of 10 children. Her parents made a living selling plants, and she enjoyed a regular childhood growing up. Iniong never imagined she would grow up to be a professional martial artist, instead hoping to become a police officer.
However, all that would change once she started training in martial arts. She first took up boxing as a high school student, later moving on to wushu as a means to earn a scholarship to the University of the Cordilleras, much like many of her teammates at Team Lakay.
Upon her graduation in 2012, she decided to become a full-time martial artist to prove she could do anything that men could. She made a name for herself as a six-time national wushu gold medalist, and after establishing herself as one of the Philippines’ top women warriors, Iniong made her highly-anticipated ONE Championship debut. She has since registered impressive wins over tough opponents, and established herself as a top contender in the atomweight division.
