The Top Highlights From ONE: A NEW BREED II

Muay Thai fighter Pongsiri PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym walks away, feeling triumphant

ONE Championship entertained fans all across the globe with the latest edition of the ‘A NEW BREED’ event series.

All six fights at ONE: A NEW BREED II gave fans plenty to remember, but certain moments stood out from the rest.

Following all the impressive debuts, highlight-reel finishes, and incredible back-and-forth battles, here are the top three highlights from the previously recorded event in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, 11 September.

#1 Pongsiri Takes Decision In Epic Main Event

Pongsiri PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym and Sean “Clubber” Clancy both gave everything they had in an instant-classic ONE Super Series Muay Thai bantamweight main event.

Pongsiri’s accuracy was on full display early in the first round. The Thai star backed his opponent to the ropes with forward pressure and scored with stinging right hands and a heavy left hook as the two men stood toe-to-toe in close quarters.

The second round had the most decisive moment of the match, as Pongsiri scored a knockdown. A left hook whipped around Clancy’s guard to stagger the Irishman, and a follow-up right elbow knocked him to the mat.

“Clubber” knew his back was against the wall when the third round began, and he came out firing on all cylinders. Pongsiri had noticeably slowed down, and the WBC Muay Thai World Champion took advantage by peppering the Thai with body shots throughout the frame.

Despite that valiant effort, Pongsiri had done more than enough to earn a unanimous decision victory. Still, this will be remembered as one of the best Muay Thai bouts in 2020.

#2 Superlek Wins Thrilling Encounter

Fahdi “The Gladiator” Khaled entered the ring with everything to gain, but #2-ranked flyweight kickboxing contender “The Kicking Machine” Superlek Kiatmoo9 used his experience to defend his position among the elite during a tight three-round battle.

The Tunisian athlete scored early in the fast-paced first round with a right cross-left hook combination that stunned the ONE World Title hopeful.

However, Superlek made the necessary adjustments in the final two rounds to circumvent the rising star. “The Kicking Machine” opened the second round with a brilliant knee to his opponent’s midsection and then lived up to his nickname by taking away Khaled’s best offensive weapon with repeated right kicks to the lead arm.

The kicks and movement of Superlek continued in the final round, making it difficult for “The Gladiator” to score offensively. The Kiatmoo9 Gym representative left him reaching out but hitting nothing.

Superlek’s tactical performance earned him a big unanimous decision victory at home against a game opponent.

#3 Supergirl’s Electric Debut

Wondergirl Fairtex won her debut at ONE: NO SURRENDER III last month, but her younger sister, Supergirl Jaroonsak Muaythai, may have upstaged the elder sibling with her first promotional appearance on Friday night.

Argentina’s Milagros Lopez was aggressive from the outset, as she tried to pressure the 16-year-old Thai prodigy. But Supergirl quickly found her timing. As Lopez threw a right kick, Supergirl scored with a straight right hand that dropped her opponent to the mat.

Though the Argentine answered the referee’s count, the Jaroonsak Muaythai representative soon landed the bout-ending combination. A left jab was followed by a blistering right cross that connected flush with Lopez’s face. It sent her crashing to the canvas, causing the referee to wave off the fight.

The one-minute victory was a star-making debut for Supergirl and moved her professional record to 38-5-1.
