The Complete History Of The ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Title
The ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship is the most coveted prize in arguably ONE Championship’s deepest and most talent-stacked weight class.
The 155-pound ranks produce elite strikers who combine size, strength, and speed to devastating effect. Only the best of the best reach the mountaintop in this unforgiving landscape of world-class talent.
Since its inception, the division has witnessed a legend’s dominant reign followed by a young phenom seizing the throne in an unforgettable passing-of-the-torch moment.
At ONE Fight Night 40: Hemetsberger vs. Buntan II on Prime Video, the division will write its next chapter.
On Friday, February 13, live in U.S. primetime from Bangkok’s legendary Lumpinee Stadium, Scottish powerhouse Nico “King of the North” Carrillo faces Thai knockout artist Shadow Singha Mawynn for the ONE Interim Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship.
But before the interim crown is claimed, let’s journey through the complete history of the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Title.
Inaugural King Petchmorakot Leaves Trail Of Excellence
The history of the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship begins with its first ruler, Petchmorakot Petchyindee, a living legend in “the art of eight limbs.”
A former two-division Lumpinee Stadium World Champion and WMC Muay Thai World Titleholder, Petchmorakot brought his signature muay khao style to ONE Championship in 2018. His approach emphasized sharp boxing complemented by devastating knees and elbows.
After four victories, he earned his shot at the inaugural featherweight Muay Thai crown at ONE: WARRIOR’S CODE in February 2020.
On that historic night in Jakarta, Petchmorakot landed 170 significant strikes against Pongsiri PK Saenchai to claim the throne via unanimous decision.
Five months later, the champion defended his belt against compatriot “The Boxing Computer” Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex at ONE: NO SURRENDER in July 2020. Using masterful range and distance management, Petchmorakot outclassed the challenger via split decision.
In September 2020, he faced Swedish headhunter Magnus “Crazy Viking” Andersson at ONE: A NEW BREED III. The champion beat the aggressive challenger at his own game, retaining his crown via third-round TKO with a devastating left hand.
Then came a grueling five-round war with the tough Jimmy “JV01” Vienot at ONE 157 in May 2022. Petchmorakot’s crucial fourth-round knockdown with a right hook sealed the split-decision victory.
Unfortunately, his reign came to an end at ONE 161 in September 2022 against Tawanchai PK Saenchai.
With three successful defenses, Petchmorakot left behind a legacy of excellence as one of the division’s most complete World Champions.
Tawanchai Ushers In Era Of Destruction
Tawanchai was highly regarded as a generational talent when he arrived at ONE Championship in 2021, and he quickly proved all the hype was real.
After highlight-reel knockouts over Sean “Clubber” Clancy, Saemapetch Fairtex, and Niclas “Dreamchaser” Larsen, the PK Saenchai Gym product challenged Petchmorakot at ONE 161 in September 2022.
The clash turned into a back-and-forth chess match, with the defending king gaining the edge after a strong fourth round. But Tawanchai rallied in the final frame with thudding teeps and precise left hooks to dethrone Petchmorakot via unanimous decision.
In his first defense, Tawanchai sent a frightening message at ONE Fight Night 7 in February 2023, needing just 49 seconds to destroy Jamal “Yeniceri” Yusupov with a crippling leg kick.
Then came his most high-profile test against ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion Superbon at ONE Friday Fights 46 in December 2023. In a mesmerizing display of striking prowess, Tawanchai edged out the 35-year-old icon via majority decision.
His next challenge was against “Smokin” Jo Nattawut in a five-round rematch at ONE 167 in June 2024. Nattawut’s sharp boxing troubled him, but Tawanchai broke through with his signature left kicks for another majority decision.
After two consecutive close calls, Tawanchai left no questions in his rematch with Superbon at ONE 170 in January 2025. The 26-year-old knocked down his fellow Thai three times in round two for a spectacular TKO that sent Bangkok’s Impact Arena into a frenzy.
However, Tawanchai suffered a broken leg under kickboxing rules against “Spirit Dragon” Liu Mengyang at ONE Friday Fights 137 in December 2025 and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Once healed, he will undoubtedly seek redemption and prove he remains the division’s most dominant force.
A New Interim Champion Will Be Crowned
With Tawanchai sidelined, the featherweight division is wide open, and two top contenders are ready to seize the throne at ONE Fight Night 40.
Carrillo has established himself as a fearsome knockout artist in the promotion, scoring four straight wicked finishes at bantamweight.
His frightening power only grew more lethal after moving to featherweight, where he put the division on notice with a second-round finish of Sitthichai “Killer Kid” Sitsongpeenong at ONE Fight Night 30 in April 2025.
The “King of the North” followed up with another vicious second-round TKO of Luke “The Chef” Lessei at ONE Fight Night 37 in November 2025.
Meanwhile, Shadow earned his place by grinding through the ONE Friday Fights circuit, where five straight wins earned him a life-changing six-figure contract.
He dominated “The Eagle” Mohamed Younes Rabah at ONE Fight Night 33 in July 2025 before an accidental eye poke caused a no contest.
Shadow then thrust himself into interim title contention with a crushing spinning backfist finish of Bampara Kouyate at ONE Fight Night 35 in September 2025.
On February 13, Carrillo and Shadow will battle for the ONE Interim Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship, with one elite striker poised to continue the division’s storied legacy.
