Rockie Bactol was born in the Philippines, but moved to Bangkok at the age of 14 when his mother got a job promotion and relocated there. Seen as an outsider because he was different from his peers, he had a hard time fitting in and was the target of bullies, so he started training in Muay Thai and wrestling as a way to become disciplined and control his emotions.
However, he soon realized that he had found his life’s passion in martial arts, and threw himself headlong into competition, testing his skills as often as he could in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, and mixed martial arts. His raw talent then earned him a spot in the first season of Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series, where he made an instant impact on his professional debut to win via first-round submission.
What’s more, his performance was deemed impressive enough for him to earn an immediate place in ONE Championship. Now that his martial arts career is steadily taking off, he is motivated by a desire to achieve something great, and to do his best against the best martial artists in the world on the global stage.
