Status: Former ONE Athlete
WFL World Champion Pieter Buist grew up in a rough neighborhood in the Netherlands, one of three boys raised by a single mother. He and his brothers were enamored with martial arts shows such as Bruce Lee films and Dragon Ball Z, inspiring him to become a martial artist himself.
Buist started his martial arts career with judo at the age of 6 and won a bronze medal in the European under-16 Championships. But after a few years of judo competition, he struck a deal with a local Muay Thai trainer to learn and compete in exchange for work. He soon began competing in Muay Thai nearly every weekend and had almost 100 bouts before switching his focus to mixed martial arts, which he describes as his true passion.
Buist put together a solid 14-4 record in the cage, including three European titles and a WFL Lightweight World Title before signing with ONE Championship. He trains with some of the best mixed martial arts athletes Europe has to offer, such as ONE athlete Reinier De Ridder and Gegard Mousasi. He is excited for the chance to compete against the best martial artists in the world, and he hopes to cement his place among them as he moves closer to winning ONE Championship gold.
