There was no secret to Tonon’s game plan in his latest featherweight contest, as it took him less than 20 seconds to catch a kick, swoop inside, and plant Engelen on the mat with a well-timed takedown.
The 27-year-old was methodical as he shredded Engelen’s defense to pass into dominant positions while he constantly looked to set up the finish.
However, Tonon was not looking for the submission as much as he was chipping away at his opponent with a barrage of punches and elbows.
The Indonesian did his best to work his way back to his feet, but each time he managed to get close to an escape, Tonon brought him crashing back down into his world on the ground.
With time ticking away in the opening round, Tonon worked his way into mount for the second time and began raining down punches in bunches. The Team Renzo Gracie and Evolve representative was relentless, and gave Engelen no chance to do anything but cover up.
Following a succession of unanswered shots, the referee had no choice but to rescue the Bali MMA athlete with 4:12 on the clock, and Tonon jumped up to celebrate an impressive TKO.
“I just want to let you guys know, there’s a monster growing inside this ONE cage, and he isn’t getting any easier to beat,” Tonon told the crowd, and his peers, following his win.
“You’d better come after me right now because I’m only going to become unbeatable in this cage.
“I gave you guys a little taste of what I’m capable of tonight. Before, I was working, I was learning, I was gaining experience. This is what I’m capable of. I’m capable of controlling you until the finish, and you will never get away.”
With the win, Tonon extended his perfect record to 4-0 in ONE Championship.
