Please join me in welcoming the #1 pound-for-pound king, Demetrious Johnson, to ONE Championship. He is the most dominant mixed martial arts world champion in history, and holds the record for the most number of world title defenses in UFC. His extraordinary achievements speak for themselves, but I am most impressed by his character, his values, and his life story. @mightymouse125 ???????????? #GOAT
Johnson began his martial arts journey as a successful wrestler in high school, eventually finishing as one of the top wrestlers in the state of Washington during his junior and senior years. In 2007, two years after his graduation, he made the switch to mixed martial arts.
He then put together a 10-bout win streak and quickly found himself competing in North America’s biggest promotions.
In 2012, Johnson became the inaugural UFC Flyweight World Champion, and his grip on the title has been unrivaled anywhere else in the sport. He posted 11 consecutive defenses over a six-year stretch, finishing seven of his elite-level challengers inside the distance.
Dominating the opposition put in front of him, the Washington luminary became renowned for arguably the most complete repertoire of skills ever seen in the cage.
Johnson currently holds a 27-3-1 professional record, with five wins coming via knockout and 11 via submission. He has never been finished in his 11-year career.
Now, after clearing out the flyweight division in North America, he has opted to test himself against fresh challenges in Asia.
ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio will be watching carefully, and the likes of Adriano Moraes, Kairat Akhmetov, Reece McLaren, Danny Kingad, and Gianni Subba are all potential rivals for the American.
