Meyram Maquine, Ruan Alvarenga Rematch In Featherweight Submission Grappling Contest At ONE Fight Night 46
Meyram Maquine and Ruan Alvarenga are set to bring a deeply compelling rivalry to the world’s largest martial arts organization when they meet in a high-stakes featherweight submission grappling contest at ONE Fight Night 46 on Prime Video.
Airing live in U.S. primetime on Friday, August 14, the blockbuster event takes place at the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The card is headlined by two-sport ONE World Champion Stella “Always Hungry” Hemetsberger defending her ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai World Title against dangerous challenger Natalia “Karelian Lynx” Diachkova.
When these two familiar foes collide on the global stage, fans can expect an elite technical battle with genuine personal pride on the line.
Maquine Set To Make His Mark On The Global Stage
Meyram Maquine’s highly anticipated addition to ONE Championship’s vaunted submission grappling ranks stands as one of the most exciting promotional signings in recent memory.
Born in Manaus — one of Brazil’s most fertile grappling hotbeds — the Guigo JJ product was introduced to capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at just five years old. Mentored by acclaimed coach Luiz “Guigo” Guilherme in São Paulo, he rose swiftly through the ultra-competitive ranks to become a two-time IBJJF World Champion, claiming gold in both 2022 and 2024.
At the 2024 Worlds, Maquine dominantly won his weight class and remarkably medaled in the absolute division. That historic feat matched Royler Gracie’s 27-year-old record as the lightest athlete to ever reach the absolute podium at the IBJJF World Championships.
Maquine’s elite finishing instincts translate flawlessly to ONE’s fast-paced, submission-only grappling format. Absolutely lethal from top control and highly dangerous off his back, his staggering 135-win career record includes an incredible 68 submission victories.
The 25-year-old phenom also arrives with past victories over established ONE superstars, including Fabricio “Hokage” Andrey, Owen Jones, and most notably, reigning ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Diogo “Baby Shark” Reis.
Maquine clearly has a massive statement to make, and aggressively seeking to avenge a previous loss to his upcoming opponent gives this promotional debut an intense edge that goes far beyond a standard first impression.
Alvarenga Anchors Elite Lineage Ahead Of Promotional Bow
In the other corner, Ruan Alvarenga brings a highly calculated, fundamentals-first style to his own monumental promotional debut.
As the son of legendary instructor Iran Brasileiro Alvarenga — who famously developed pound-for-pound legend Marcelo Garcia — Alvarenga grew up completely immersed in the gentle art. He furthered that world-class education by training directly under Garcia personally in New York City, meticulously sharpening his game under one of the sport’s most respected figures.
Alvarenga emphatically announced himself to the international scene by winning the ultra-competitive Brazilian ADCC Trials. The Alliance and Academia Pantera Negra affiliate’s impressive 20-win professional record includes nine clinical submission victories.
Much like Maquine, Alvarenga’s absolute most dangerous territory is the back position. His devastating finishing game heavily centers on the rear-naked choke, built on a suffocating mastery of fundamentals that leaves trapped opponents with precious little room to survive.
When the pair initially squared off in Brazil back in 2025, Alvarenga successfully neutralized Maquine’s explosive guard with a heavy wrestling top game and airtight positional control, ultimately taking the victory via referee’s decision.
That definitive past victory undoubtedly gives Alvarenga the psychological edge. However, when they lock horns once again on August 14, the burning hunger for ultimate redemption will be fiercely driving Maquine.
