Two men eager to pick up their first victory inside the ONE Championship cage met on Saturday, 16 September, as Malaysia’s Hisyam “Zephyrus” Samsudin took on local favorite Jeremy “Predator” Meciaz at ONE: TOTAL VICTORY, live from the Jakarta Convention Center in Indonesia.
The lightning-fast contest took under one round to be finished, as Samsudin fought through a tremendous amount of emotion and heartbreak to get the job done. His fevered striking proved to be more than the Indonesian could handle, as he earned the referee stoppage due to strikes early in the opening stanza.
Despite being a national grappling champion in Indonesia, Meciaz stormed across the cage and and threw a flying knee to start the contest. After a flurry, Samsudin, who trains out of Borneo Tribal Squad MMA, wound up in the top position on the ground.
For over one minute, Meciaz attempted a number of different leg locks. But like the true warrior that he is, “Zephyrus,” who holds the WBF Asia-Pacific Light Heavyweight Boxing Championship, fended them off and eventually reversed course.
The “Predator” wound up turtled on the ground, and that was the beginning of the end, as Samsudin landed knees seemingly at will. When the Jakarta native rolled to his back, the Malaysian continued to drop elbow after elbow, which ultimately forced the referee to call a stoppage to the contest.
The end came at the 2:47 mark of the very first round.
An incredibly emotional Samsudin picked up his first victory inside the ONE cage. With tears flowing from his eyes, the 26-year-old said the victory was dedicated to his late father, who had passed away just one day prior to the bout.
The elder Samsudin was unfortunately unable to watch the bout take place. However, he made sure to instruct Hisyam to compete at ONE: TOTAL VICTORY and win. The filial son duly obliged.
