Three-time European Grappling Champion Aleksi “The Giant” Toivonen is a born competitor, having started training in martial arts since he was 6 years old with karate in his native Finland. He later switched his focus to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and had over 150 matches in competition, winning the IBJJF No-gi Grappling European Championships several times.
Toivonen went on to win two national-level mixed martial arts championships as an amateur, before making his professional debut in late 2015. He got of to a perfect start, going 6-0 with six stoppages before suffering his first defeat in September 2018. Soon after his first official professional loss, Toivonen journeyed to Evolve MMA in Singapore to sharpen his skills and try out for the famed Evolve Fight Team.
After making a good impression on the coaches, he relocated to train and compete full-time under the Evolve banner, working with former ONE World Champions such as Alex Silva and Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke on a daily basis. Toivonen regards himself as one of a new breed of athletes coming out of Evolve’s global tryouts, and he intends to claim a ONE World Championship before holding on to it for a long time.
