Rungrawee To Battle Youssef Assouik In Pivotal Muay Thai Matchup At ONE Fight Night 34

Rungrawee Sitsongpeenong Shakir Al Tekreeti ONE Fight Night 18 33

ONE Championship’s talent-rich lightweight Muay Thai division will be on full display at ONE Fight Night 34: Eersel vs. Jarvis on Prime Video, as divisional standouts Rungrawee “Legatron” Sitsongpeenong and Youssef Assouik will meet in a key contest on August 1 in U.S. primetime.

Scheduled for the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, that contest joins the ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Title main event showdown between reigning king Regian Eersel and red-hot challenger George Jarvis.

While Rungrawee and Assouik are each hungry for their own crack at 26 pounds of gold, they will come into this fight at distinctly different points in their respective ONE tenures.

Renowned for his devastating kicking power, Rungrawee made his promotional debut back in February 2023 and quickly rattled off a trio of impressive victories to announce himself as a serious World Title contender.

He would next fall short against Russian knockout artist Dmitry Menshikov but bounced back with an impressive second-round stoppage of Iraq’s Shakir Al-Tekreeti and a hard-fought kickboxing victory over Bogdan Shumarov.

Then in his most recent appearance, Rungrawee suffered a disappointing defeat against Jarvis, putting his own World Title hopes on the back burner.

Considering how close he was to reaching the top of the mountain, Rungrawee is undoubtedly motivated to prove he can win consistently and finally secure a shot at the ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Title.

Standing across from him at ONE Fight Night 34 will be Danish-Moroccan striker Assouik.

A former two-division ISKA World Champion and a former WMC Muay Thai World Champion, the 30-year-old Assouik arrived at the world’s largest martial arts organization with loads of hype.

He lived up to those expectations in his ONE debut last October, defeating former two-time ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Title challenger Sinsamut Klinmee.

That victory quickly turned Assouik from a dangerous rising star into a bona fide contender in the lightweight Muay Thai division. He now hopes to take out another divisional powerhouse and rocket himself to the front of the queue.

Stylistically, this bout should produce intriguing action.

While “Legatron” packs terrifying power into his leg kicks and his crisp boxing attack, Assouik is tall for the weight class and loves to use his long-range weaponry to set traps and keep his foe on the defensive.
