Roman Kryklia To Face Alex Roberts For Inaugural Heavyweight Muay Thai World Title At ONE Fight Night 17

Roman Kryklia

Reigning ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Champion Roman Kryklia could become the next two-sport king at ONE Fight Night 17: Kryklia vs. Roberts on Prime Video.

On Friday, December 8, the Ukrainian superstar will square off against WBC Heavyweight Muay Thai World Champion Alex Roberts for the inaugural ONE Heavyweight Muay Thai World Title live in U.S. primetime.

Their showdown will headline ONE Championship’s first all-Muay Thai card, which is set for the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Kryklia has proven to be a truly unstoppable force during his ONE tenure.

The 6-foot-7 human skyscraper enjoyed a magical promotional debut, as he knocked out longtime rival Tarik Khbabez to claim the inaugural ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Championship in November 2019.

Following a pair of successful World Title defenses, Kryklia entered the 2022 ONE Heavyweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix. He knocked out Guto Inocente in just 52 seconds and then stopped Iranian sensation Iraj Azizpour in their captivating trilogy to win the tournament’s silver belt.

Now, Kryklia looks to become the latest two-sport ONE World Champion just one month after Jonathan Haggerty achieved the feat in the bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing divisions.

But the 32-year-old will need to beat Roberts, who believes he has the skills and power to take out the impenetrable Ukrainian colossus.

The 6-foot-4 Perth native, who is nicknamed “The Viking,” will bring tremendous momentum into his promotional debut. He is coming off the biggest victory of his career, having defeated Lyndon Knowles – one of Haggerty’s cornermen – to claim the WBC Heavyweight Muay Thai World Title in Australia this past October.

That was a huge accolade for Roberts, but on December 8, he can etch his name into the history books by becoming the first man to defeat Kryklia in the world’s largest martial arts organization while claiming the heavyweight Muay Thai division’s inaugural gold.

This historic clash officially tops ONE Championship’s all-Muay Thai card on Amazon Prime Video, and the show will also be the promotion’s final U.S. primetime event of 2023.
