ONE Friday Fights 162 Main Event Result: Adam Benwarwar Survives Two Knockdowns To Stop Kongklai In Instant Classic
Adam “El Capitano” Benwarwar and Kongklai Sor Sommai promised fireworks in their bantamweight Muay Thai main event at ONE Friday Fights 162. They delivered on every word, turning Lumpinee Stadium into a war zone until the match-winning moment.
The thrilling battle capped a stacked night of action on Friday, July 17, in Bangkok, Thailand, which began with The Inner Circle 22 before rolling into this card, just hours before ONE Championship returns to U.S. primetime with ONE Fight Night 45: Lessei vs. Rabah on Prime Video.
Benwarwar started aggressively, landing punishing punches that rocked his opponent. However, Kongklai quickly retaliated with a tremendous left hook that sent the Moroccan to the canvas for an eight-count. The Petchsaman Gym representative regained his footing almost immediately, and a firefight ensued.
He landed an uppercut and a right hook that opened a cut on Kongklai just moments before the opening round ended. The Thai may have been rocked, but he clearly wasn’t ready to back down from war when the fight resumed.
Kongklai marched forward behind a crimson mask in the second stanza, rocking his 23-year-old opponent with punches to the body before dropping him again with a two-punch combination to the head. At that point, all signs pointed toward another highlight-reel win for the knockout merchant.

Benwarwar had other ideas, though. “El Capitano” took his time to recover, but the momentum shifted dramatically once he regained his footing and bit on his mouthpiece. A powerful right cross dropped the Thai, and moments later, he sent him back to the canvas with a crushing left hook.
The Thai veteran used all his energy to beat the count, but he was visibly hurt. Benwarwar took notice, immediately pressing forward and driving his opposite number against the ropes, where he unloaded a fight-ending combination.
With Kongklai no longer intelligently defending himself, the referee stepped in and stopped the contest at 2:44 of the second round. The dramatic TKO victory improved Benwarwar’s professional record to 25-7.
During his post-fight interview, the Moroccan also revealed that he had learned of his grandfather’s passing before entering the ring, adding an emotional layer to one of the biggest wins of his career.
