‘Nothing Will Surprise Me’ – Ibragim Dauev Ready For Showdown With Undefeated Magomed Akaev

Russian rising star Ibragim Dauev is excited about his featherweight MMA clash with his undefeated compatriot Magomed Akaev at ONE Fight Night 32: Rodrigues vs. Cohen on Prime Video on June 6 in U.S. primetime.
That bout will go down at the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, where Dauev aims to improve his 9-1 professional record against the 10-0 promotional newcomer.
Given his unblemished slate and proven finishing instincts, Akaev comes to ONE with plenty of well-deserved hype.
While Dauev respects his opponent’s clean record and dangerous skill set, he believes he has what it takes to give Akaev a harsh dose of reality. The 24-year-old told onefc.com:
“Magomed is a debutant in ONE, but he isn’t new when it comes to professional fighting. He has a good record of 10 wins. I watched his last few fights, and I can say that he’s got good striking and solid wrestling. But I’m confident that I can match him in every area.”
Dauev made his own promotional debut in January of last year at ONE Fight Night 18, securing a dominant unanimous decision win over long-tenured bantamweight standout Mark “Tyson” Abelardo after three rounds of thrilling action.
That performance showcased his diverse talents. With explosive striking and relentless grappling, Dauev quickly asserted himself as a name to watch.
Considering his experience on the global stage, coupled with his elite training in both Russia and Thailand, he isn’t intimidated by what Akaev will bring to the ring at ONE Fight Night 32:
“With my preparation, nothing will surprise me, but I definitely won’t underestimate him.”
Naturally, Dauev hopes to make a statement in his sophomore appearance in ONE, this time up a division at featherweight.
After earning a decision – albeit an entertaining one – in his ONE debut, he’s now motivated to get the finish and take home a US$50,000 performance bonus:
“If possible, a quick finish is a good chance to get a bonus because I always want to earn a bonus wherever I fight. But if it doesn’t happen, I’m ready to go through all three rounds.”
Driven By Championship Dreams
Ibragim Dauev’s lofty aspirations extend far beyond his upcoming showdown with Magomed Akaev.
He’s been paying close attention to ONE fighters during his time away from the action, well aware that he could face a number of them in the future:
“I always follow events in the league, but right now, I’m focused on my own fight. I know one thing for sure – I’m ready to fight anyone and won’t turn down any bouts.”
This studious and goal-oriented mindset has served the Russian well throughout his career, and his return on June 6 will be a critical step during his climb toward 26 pounds of gold.
Dauev’s dedication to MMA is fueled by that goal and the unending backing from those around him:
“I’m motivated by the World Title. Wherever I am, I want to be the best. The support of my loved ones also helps me a lot, and I can’t let them down.”
