Former ONE World Title challenger Ellis Badr Barboza‘s journey back to a second championship opportunity begins at ONE Fight Night 34.

That evening, “El Jefe” will square off against Russian knockout artist Shamil Adukhov in a pivotal strawweight Muay Thai clash, which airs live in U.S. primetime from the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, August 1.

Barboza is a technical Muay Thai fighter with explosive power who possesses seemingly nonstop cardio, and that has been showcased throughout his ONE Championship tenure.

After impressing in his promotional debut against Thongpoon PK Saenchai back in December 2023, the Birmingham native returned against Thai-Malaysian standout Aliff Sor Dechapan in July 2024.

The two engaged in a competitive three-round war, and in the end, Barboza left the ring with a split-decision win.

Following that victory, the British hard-hitter was awarded a crack at two-sport king Prajanchai PK Saenchai‘s ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship in the main event of ONE Fight Night 28 this past February.

Barboza put forth a valiant effort, but the Thai star ultimately finished him in the fourth round via TKO to retain his coveted gold.

Now, six months removed from that heartbreaking loss, “El Jefe” has regrouped and seems ready to smash his way back into the World Title picture. He has a chance to do that at ONE Fight Night 34.

Meanwhile, Adukhov wants to re-introduce himself to the global fan base in highlight-reel fashion.

After going 7-1 on the Russian and European circuit, the aggressive Dagestani kickboxer earned an invite to the world’s largest martial arts organization.

Adukhov accepted a catchweight Muay Thai bout with Aliff on two weeks’ notice at ONE Fight Night 28 in February, but the match didn’t turn out the way he had anticipated. The Thai-Malaysian striker knocked him out in the first round.

Though his debut didn’t go as planned, Adukhov now has a full training camp to show what he can do against a recent ONE World Title challenger on the global stage and prove that he can be a bona fide contender in the talent-rich strawweight Muay Thai division.
