Dzhabar Askerov’s Escape From Extreme Poverty | ONE Feature

From an impoverished young boy in Russia to one of the best kickboxers in the world, Dzhabar Askerov has come a long way in life. Growing up on the mean streets of Dagestan, Askerov was instilled with a passion for the striking arts. But Askerov’s life came crumbling down when he lost his father, who first introduced him to kickboxing. Though times were tough, the Russian’s dedication to be the best never wavered, as he often walked up to 15 kilometers in the dead of winter to train as his local gym. Now, Askerov has a chance at the ultimate payoff — the US$1 million grand prize in the inaugural ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix. To keep his dreams alive, he must defeat Samy Sana in the tournament semifinals at ONE: DREAMS OF GOLD in Bangkok.
