‘This Time I Will Make It Clear’ – Kongthoranee Vows To Silence Critics In Rematch With Nong-O At ONE Fight Night 31

Kongthoranee Sor Sommai isn’t interested in another split decision when he rematches legendary striker Nong-O Hama on May 2 in U.S. primetime in the main event of ONE Fight Night 31 on Prime Video.

The 28-year-old rising star is currently in his final preparations for that much-anticipated flyweight Muay Thai showdown at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Kongthoranee earned a hard-fought, closely contested decision victory over Nong-O when the pair first collided in February at ONE Fight Night 28.

He’ll now look to erase any doubts about that outcome, solidify his status as the flyweight Muay Thai division’s #3-ranked contender, and position himself for a shot at the vacant divisional crown.

With that in mind, Kongthoranee told onefc.com that he’s excited to quiet the naysayers with a more definitive result:

“I was happy with my performance in the first fight, but others may have some doubts, so this time I will make it clear.”

While many fighters would have been satisfied to earn a victory over a former longtime ONE World Champion like Nong-O – no matter how it came – Kongthoranee wanted an opportunity to settle the score.

When the dust settles at ONE Fight Night 31, he expects to own a clear 2-0 advantage:

“Yes, [I wanted the rematch] because this time everyone will finally be able to end their arguments.”

Considering that the two squared off less than three months ago, it’s no surprise that the experience of fighting Nong-O is still fresh in Kongthoranee’s mind.

Well aware of his foe’s expert and precise striking, the Sor Sommai product’s game plan in the rematch is simple:

“I learned that Nong-O has very good timing. The way to deal with him is that I have to be faster than him.”

Kongthoranee Hoping To Avoid Trilogy Fight With Nong-O

Even though many fans would happily watch these two elite Muay Thai fighters throw down time and time again, Kongthoranee Sor Sommai doesn’t want to build a long-term rivalry with Nong-O Hama.

Instead, his sole focus heading into May 2 is delivering a performance that concludes the story definitively:

“I want to win this fight decisively so our rivalry can end here and there will be no trilogy match.”

After his split-decision win in February, Kongthoranee received some criticism, as fans voiced their displeasure with the judges’ scorecards.

The former three-time Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champion has heard those criticisms and is using them as fuel ahead of ONE Fight Night 31.

He added:

“After I received a lot of trash messages, it motivated me to work harder so that no one will think negatively of me anymore.

“I expect this fight to be fierce, and as I said, if I get the chance to finish, I will go for it.”
