The Stars Predict Janet Todd Vs. Lara Fernandez World Title Fight At ONE 159

Janet Todd faces Lara Fernandez at ONE 159 on July 22

Before two-division ONE World Champion Reinier de Ridder and Vitaly Bigdash battle for the Dutchman’s middleweight strap in the main event of ONE 159, another tantalizing World Title fight will produce fireworks this Friday, July 22.

In the co-main event, atomweight kickboxing queen Janet Todd will aim to become a double-champ when she faces dangerous promotional newcomer Lara Fernandez for the ONE Interim Atomweight Muay Thai World Title.

After failing to capture the inaugural ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Title in her promotional debut against former two-sport queen Stamp Fairtex, Todd put together a dominant six-fight winning streak.

During that run, she redeemed herself against Stamp to capture the ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Title. Now, she’s hoping to follow in the Thai superstar’s footsteps by becoming the organization’s second female two-sport ONE World Champion.

Fernandez intends to play the spoiler, though. The rising Spaniard is an ISKA World Champion and a WBC Muay Thai World Champion, and she’s determined to claim the richest prize in the sport in her ONE debut.

Before this high-stakes showdown kicks off at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, some of our biggest stars lay down their predictions.

Arjan Bhullar

“I think that’s a great fight for the ONE Interim Atomweight Muay Thai World Title. I like Janet Todd. I’ve watched more of her fights, to be honest with you, and I like her style. I think she breaks through, and she gets it done. I think she will get that strap.”

“Janet Todd is the favorite. She is a veteran of [ONE] and has fights with very tough opponents on her record, while Lara Fernandez is debuting in [ONE] against the toughest fighter in the division. I believe this will work in Janet’s favor, and so I believe in her victory.”

Alma Juniku

“I’ll go with Janet because she’s got more experience. But then again, you never know what happens at the end of the day. Lara may have a chance with how she pushes forward, and if she keeps her guard up, she’ll do very well.”

Julie Mezabarba

“I bet Janet Todd wins. From what she’s been showing in her fights, I believe in a possible knockout or a dominant unanimous decision victory.”

Savvas Michael

“I think Janet Todd is going to win. She’s physically strong, and she takes care of herself. I think she’s going to hurt Lara Fernandez. I think Todd’s going to knock her out.

“The only way for Fernandez to win is that she has to be well prepared for this moment. She will be fighting under the bright lights, and I don’t know how mentally prepared she is for the moment. Everyone wants to be in these big fights, but they fail to perform when it’s time to shine. Therefore, she can win if she has conditioned herself to fight in this scenario.”

“I don’t know too much about Lara Fernandez, but I know Janet Todd is used to ONE. She’s fought on there a lot and she’s been winning and beating some good names on there so I’d say she’ll win the fight, maybe on points.”
