Tang Kai And Thanh Le To Unify Featherweight MMA World Title In Rematch At ONE 166: Qatar

Tang Kai touches gloves with Thanh Le at ONE 160

The highly anticipated ONE Featherweight MMA World Title unification bout between Tang Kai and Thanh Le is officially set for ONE 166: Qatar.

Slated to go down at the Lusail Sports Arena on Friday, March 1, that contest will see reigning divisional king Tang battle interim titleholder Le in a rematch of the pair’s epic August 2022 clash.

Tang won that five-round war, wresting the belt from the Vietnamese-American knockout artist to become China’s first-ever male MMA World Champion.

But since then, the 27-year-old has been forced to the sidelines due to injury, and the talent-laden weight class has moved on in his absence.

That set the stage for an Interim World Title clash in October, as Le scored a stunning first-round heel hook victory – just the second submission win of his professional career – over dangerous Russian phenom Ilya Freymanov at ONE Fight Night 15.

Now, with both Tang and Le holding 26 pounds of gold, they’re finally ready to settle the score in a rematch that has fans anxious with anticipation.

While their first fight went the distance over the course of 25 action-packed minutes, these two featherweights are elite finishers, and they’ve achieved that status in arguably the toughest division in MMA.

Le boasts a 100 percent finishing rate in 17 career victories, including an unforgettable knockout of Martin Nguyen to capture the undisputed featherweight MMA crown back in 2020.

Meanwhile, Tang is one of MMA’s most feared and electrifying strikers, with 13 highlight-reel knockouts across 17 professional wins of his own.

Given each athlete’s proclivity for action, fans won’t want to miss a second of this World Title rematch.

The contest between Tang and Le joins a stacked card in Qatar, which already includes a ONE Middleweight MMA World Title showdown between Reinier de Ridder and Anatoly Malykhin, and a ONE Strawweight MMA World Title battle between Jarred Brooks and Joshua Pacio.
