Rodtang Out Of ONE Fight Night 8, Danial Williams Steps In To Challenge Superlek

There’s been a late switch atop the card for ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video this Friday, March 24.

Superlek Kiatmoo9 was slated to defend his ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Title against Rodtang Jitmuangnon in the main event, but an undisclosed injury has forced the flyweight Muay Thai king to withdraw from the contest.

However, Superlek will still defend his World Title gold in U.S. primetime at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

With Rodtang out of the running, Danial Williams will step up and take on the biggest opportunity of his career.

Currently ranked #5 in ONE Championship’s strawweight Muay Thai and MMA divisions, “Mini T” is an elite striker who previously won the WMC Muay Thai World Title.

And despite being more active in MMA as of late, Williams proved he can hang with the best stand-up specialists when he pushed Rodtang to his limit in their 2021 Fight of the Year.

The Thai-Australian slugger also accepted that fight on late notice, but it didn’t show in his performance.

He threw everything at “The Iron Man” for three thrilling rounds, and he’ll plan on bringing the same kind of intensity to his challenge of “The Kicking Machine.”

Meanwhile, Superlek defeated Daniel Puertas to win the flyweight kickboxing crown at ONE Fight Night 6 in January, but he did have some trouble with the Spaniard’s aggressive boxing – a style that “Mini T” excels at.

On top of that, Williams was already preparing to compete at ONE Fight Night 8 in a strawweight Muay Thai clash against Rui Botelho, so his training camp was in the books ahead of the event.

Although there will be two extra World Championship rounds and a move up in weight, the fearless 29-year-old won’t be fazed as he meets Superlek for the most coveted accolade in kickboxing.

Botelho will still feature on the card, as the Portuguese athlete will now face Aslanbek Zikreev in a 128-pound catchweight Muay Thai contest.
