Mikey Musumeci To Defend World Title Against Sayan Khertek At ONE On Prime Video 6
Reigning ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci is set to defend his belt for the first time, and he’s facing exactly the type of opponent he asked for.
In the co-main event of ONE on Prime Video 6: Superbon vs. Allazov, the BJJ ace known as “Darth Rigatoni” will square off with Sambo World Champion Sayan Khertek.
An intriguing clash of styles, their January 13 showdown will take place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, and will mark the Russian grappler’s promotional debut.
Meanwhile, this will be Musumeci’s third appearance inside the Circle and his first since defeating Cleber Sousa in their trilogy bout to capture the promotion’s inaugural flyweight submission grappling belt at ONE on Prime Video 2 this past September.
Shortly after, the jiu-jitsu phenom made waves by calling for a match against the top sambo athlete in the world in his weight class, fueling the budding rivalry between the disciplines.
Enter Khertek. A 2022 Sambo World Champion, the Russian star is happy to answer Musumeci’s callout.
Although the 35-year-old might be new to the Circle and no-gi submission grappling, he boasts a lengthy and impressive resume that includes a second Sambo World Title from 2017.
If “Darth Rigatoni” can get past Khertek and successfully defend his ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Championship, then he will have extended jiu-jitsu’s commanding lead over sambo.
Across a trio of intriguing BJJ vs. sambo matchups that have taken place inside the Circle, all three ended with a submission by the jiu-jitsu athlete.
