Maurice Abevi To Face Undefeated Debutant Samat Mamedov At ONE 168: Denver

Maurice Abevi Zhang Lipeng ONE Fight Night 22 5

Two of MMA’s most talented and entertaining young stars are set to collide on September 6 in U.S. primetime at ONE 168: Denver.

That night, surging Swiss phenom Maurice Abevi will square off with undefeated promotional newcomer Samat Mamedov in a lightweight MMA contest in front of a raucous Colorado crowd at Ball Arena.

With his well-rounded skill set, ultra-aggressive approach, and seemingly endless gas tank, Abevi has already established himself as a fan favorite through three appearances in the world’s largest martial arts organization.

After dropping a back-and-forth decision to Turkish standout Halil Amir in his promotional debut, the 24-year-old has tallied back-to-back victories, knocking out the hard-hitting Blake Cooper and securing a decision over respected veteran Zhang Lipeng.

Those wins have erased any doubts that Abevi belongs in the upper echelon of the lightweight MMA division – and he knows a victory in Denver could earn him another high-profile opponent and move him closer to a shot at gold.

Mamedov, though, is one of the world’s most feared up-and-comers and has all the talent to send Abevi back to the loss column.

The 25-year-old Kazakh boasts an unblemished 10-0 professional record, which includes an incredible nine first-round finishes.

While Mamedov packs big power in his strikes – both on the ground and on the feet – he does his best work when overwhelming his opponents with elite grappling and relentless submission hunting.

He’ll look to employ those ground skills against Abevi and make waves in his global debut on September 6.

Given each man’s youth, ruthless finishing instincts, and motivation to put on a show for the American crowd, fans can expect an unforgettable barnburner when Abevi and Mamdedov share the Circle.
