Luis Regis Is Not Scared To Go Toe-To-Toe With Yodsanklai
Luis “Soot Raaeng Geert” Regis (25-6-1) will explode into the consciousness of martial arts fans worldwide when he makes his ONE Championship debut against Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex (200-71-4).
The Brazilian-born resident of Sydney, Australia is an accomplished Muay Thai world champion, but he will face his biggest test to date when he meets “The Hero” in a featherweight contest at ONE: DESTINY OF CHAMPIONS.
Regis has a massive opportunity ahead of him in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He can announce himself to a global audience in the world’s largest martial arts organization and, against a prestigious name like Yodsanklai, show that he is a match for anyone.
“I’m just really happy to be in a position to face him,” says the WFO Muay Thai World Champion.
“I haven’t been an underdog for a while, but that was how I made my career – fighting guys with more experience and winning. It makes me train harder. I’ve got the fire now.”
Fans and pundits alike recognize “The Hero” as one of the greatest Muay Thai competitors of all time.
The two-division Lumpinee Stadium Muay Thai World Champion is unbeaten in seven years, and excelled against Chris “The African Warrior” Ngimbi in his ONE debut in May.
Rather than let his opponent’s reputation overwhelm him, Regis is using it as motivation. He fuels his hectic daily schedule with thoughts of Yodsanklai’s brilliance, and the desire to combat it.
“I felt like, if ONE called me, it was for a reason,” he explains. “They’re not just calling anybody to face him in a main event.
“It’s an accomplishment to share the cage with him, but I feel good, I’m not scared by it. My mind is 100 percent focused. Every day I am getting stronger and more ready for him.”
The man from Pattaya also heralded as “The Boxing Computer” is renowned for his intelligence in combat, as well as his power. These traits have taken him to WMC, WBC, and Lion Fight Muay Thai World Titles.
Yodsanklai’s rival in Kuala Lumpur knows he has a mountain to climb, but Regis has done everything he can in training to give himself the best chance of success at the Axiata Arena.
“Yodsanklai is unique, but I will be prepared. I know he will kick like a horse, but that is not new to me. I have fought guys like that before.
“I have to be smart so I can evade his kicks, block them, and counter them, but I’m in the gym training six hours a day on all of this.”
Reacting to his opponent’s output is only a part of the game plan. “Soot Raaeng Geert’s” first line of attack will be more direct.
“The first key to beating him is to have a strong mind, not to give him too much respect in the cage,” Regis says.
“Look at my record. It’s not huge, but of the 25 wins, I have knocked a lot of them out. He will stand in front of me and exchange with me, and I know I can hurt him with my hands if I catch him.”

Regis is not intimidated by his opponent’s reputation. In 4-ounce gloves, he knows anything can happen, and one punch is all it will take to pull off a stunning upset.
“I’m just so excited for it. A big name opponent, a new cage, new gloves, and a huge stage,” the man from SRG Thai Boxing adds.
“I’m not worried about what happens after, I just want to beat him and move forward with ONE.”
