Kongthoranee Vs. Nong-O Rematch Booked For Main Event Of ONE Fight Night 31

Kongthoranee Sor Sommai Nong O Hama ONE Fight Night 28 5

A rematch between two of the planet’s most talented Muay Thai fighters is officially set for the main event of ONE Fight Night 31 on Prime Video.

On May 2 in U.S. primetime, former longtime ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Hama will square off with #3-ranked flyweight Muay Thai contender Kongthoranee Sor Sommai in a flyweight contest that promises to deliver tense action from start to finish.

This matchup of Thai stars will take place in front of a raucous home crowd at the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok and joins a previously announced ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Title match between American phenom Tye Ruotolo and Canadian powerhouse Dante Leon.

Kongthoranee and Nong-O first collided in February at ONE Fight Night 28.

Entering that bout, the legendary Nong-O found himself on shaky ground, going 1-3 across his previous four fights after an incredible run of dominance to begin his ONE career, which featured eight straight World Title wins.

Kongthoranee, meanwhile, had tasted defeat just two times across 12 thrilling battles in ONE.

A former three-time Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champion, the Sor Sommai product was quickly emerging as one of the flyweight division’s most exciting contenders after winning a contract at the ONE Friday Fights event series.

Ultimately, the showdown delivered what many expected – a fast-paced, supremely technical war that kept fans on the edges of their seats from the opening bell.

In the end, it was Kongthoranee’s crisp counter-striking and ever-evolving boxing attack that earned him a narrow split-decision victory over his iconic opponent.

The 28-year-old is now hungry to defend his #3 spot in the rankings, erase any doubts that his win over Nong-O was a fluke, and make his case to challenge for the vacant ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title.

For his part, 38-year-old Nong-O is motivated to exact revenge and prove he still belongs among the best of the best. He also hopes to crash the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title picture by stealing Kongthoranee’s place in the pecking order.
