Kade Ruotolo To Defend Submission Grappling World Title Against Matheus Gabriel At ONE on Prime Video 5

Kade Ruotolo with ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Title belt at ONE on Prime Video 3

Teenage prodigy Kade Ruotolo is wasting no time defending his ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Title.

On Friday, December 2, Ruotolo will take on challenger and multiple-time BJJ World Champion Matheus Gabriel, marking the fourth World Title contest on the blockbuster ONE on Prime Video 5 fight card.

The 19-year-old Californian captured the division’s inaugural belt in October at ONE on Prime Video 3, needing just over four minutes to submit four-time Sambo World Champion Uali Kurzhev via heel hook.

Ruotolo had made his promotional debut just five months prior at ONE 157, dominating Japanese MMA legend and former ONE Lightweight World Champion Shinya Aoki en route to a lopsided decision victory.

Now that he’s bested both MMA and sambo-based grapplers, the reigning World Champion will test himself against one of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners on the planet.

A black belt since 2018, Gabriel is a true master of technique and strategy. The Checkmat representative is a two-time IBJJF World Champion and a two-time IBJJF Pan American Champion, winning once in the gi and once in no-gi.

The Brazilian’s ultra-refined technique and complex guard game will clash with Ruotolo’s relentless pace and nonstop submission-hunting approach, making for an intriguing high-stakes matchup.

A victory for either man would not only earn him 26 pounds of ONE Championship gold, but it would also bolster their claim to being one of the top pound-for-pound ground fighters on the planet.

With this Submission Grappling World Title showdown added to the card, ONE on Prime Video 5 will be the first event in promotional history to award golden belts in all four of ONE’s core martial arts – MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and submission grappling.

Moreover, the five-fight main card has officially been confirmed.

Main Card Fights Announced For ONE on Prime Video 5:

  • Reinier de Ridder vs. Anatoly Malykhin (Light Heavyweight MMA World Title)
  • Superbon Singha Mawynn vs. Chingiz Allazov (Featherweight Kickboxing World Title)
  • Allycia Hellen Rodrigues vs. Janet Todd (Atomweight Muay Thai World Title)
  • Kade Ruotolo vs. Matheus Gabriel (Lightweight Submission Grappling World Title)
