Agilan “Alligator” Thani is once again knocking on the door for a shot at the ONE Welterweight World Championship.

On Friday, March 9, Thani entertained his hometown crowd in the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a dominant ground display to tap out promotional newcomer Amitesh Chaubey at ONE: VISIONS OF VICTORY.

With the crowd in Malaysia coming unglued at the start of the match, Chaubey, an SFL Welterweight Champion, earned the crowd’s ire when he began taunting the home favorite by sticking his chin out and daring Thani to hit him.

“Alligator” refused to play into the Indian’s games, however. Instead, he bided his time until finding the perfect opening to grab a kick from his opponent, and slam him to the ground with authority.

Thani quickly followed up the takedown with a barrage of punches, hammer fists, and elbows in an attempt to get the finish. Chaubey managed to survive, but that was about all he could muster before the bell sounded.

Despite taking a load of punishment at the end of the opening frame, Chaubey went back to the same strategy to start the second. Thani would make him pay for that. The Malaysian once again scooped up the Indian before sending him crashing him back to the ground. This time, the bell would not save him.

“Alligator” effortlessly advanced his position on the mat until he was in side control. From there, he latched onto Chaubey’s arm and began cranking on an Americana. As the torque on Chaubey’s arm became too much to bear, he had no choice but to tap out. The referee quickly swooped in to stop the contest at 1:04 of the second round.

Following the win, Thani said he would gladly accept a world title shot, but if he was not yet ready, then he would take on every challenger in the division until he is back on top. With the victory, the 22-year-old moves his record to 9-1.
