‘He Has Guts’ – Superbon Says Trainer Gae Pushed His Kickboxing Career To New Heights

Superbon Singha Mawynn successfully defends the Featherweight Kickboxing World Championship against Marat Grigorian at ONE X

Superbon Singha Mawynn has achieved incredible success since he joined ONE Championship, and he credits one man in particular for his run to the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Title.

The Thai superstar – who will defend his belt against Chingiz Allazov at ONE On Prime Video 2 on Friday, September 30 – teamed up with iconic coach Trainer Gae ahead of his promotional debut in 2020.

The pair were initially acquaintances, but after striking up a conversation at a mutual friend’s party, they decided to work together.

And ever since then, Superbon has looked absolutely unstoppable.

The 32-year-old said:

“Trainer Gae is a main reason why I won multiple fights, including the Sitthichai [Sitsongpeenong], [Giorgio] Petrosyan, and Marat [Grigorian] fights. He always encourages me to train harder and made me stronger.

“Trainer Gae is one of the most important people in my life. He is the key figure [in me becoming] ONE World Champion. He supported me from my debut fight in ONE, and we still take care of each other until today.”

Superbon was already an elite competitor before taking on his new coach – but that was also part of the problem.

Others either didn’t have the creativity or the authority to help him progress, whereas Trainer Gae had both.

Those elements – combined with a shared passion for “the art of eight limbs” – meant they bonded immediately, allowing Superbon to flourish against the best strikers on the planet.

The Thai fighter explained:

“He has a true love for Muay Thai. He always strives to make his athletes successful in the profession. He always has positive energy. Also, he always invents unique ways of training to make me better and stronger.

“In terms of experience or techniques, I have them all. But what I lacked was someone who pushes me and sets a new goal for me. Like, when I hit the pads for five rounds, he will ask me to do seven. Or if I just run for five kilometers, he will make me run for eight. And that’s what I want.

“With my status, my skill, my income, no one dared to give me much advice, or had the power to order me to do something, but he has guts. He can make me respect him. We respect each other, so we can work together.”

Superbon Explains Viral Videos Alongside Trainer Gae

Along with their success in competition, Superbon and Trainer Gae’s relationship has gone viral on social media.

The coach’s unique training methods and the star athlete’s rare skill set blend together for videos that are both entertaining and informative – the perfect combination for fight fans.

For his part, the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion is thrilled to see those videos gaining popularity, as they attract more attention to the striking arts and educate those watching at home.

Superbon added:

“It’s good for me and [Trainer Gae] to be more recognized. People who have never practiced Muay Thai or beginners can learn from our clips. We just want to share our knowledge with the fans.

“There are very few athletes in the world who would share their training sessions with outsiders. But we do it because we want everyone to learn it for free. Everything we show in the videos is what we actually do in our training.”
