Yu Yau Pui

Growing up in Hong Kong, China, a career in fighting couldn’t have been further from Yu Yau Pui’s radar.

The atomweight Muay Thai star’s early life was spent learning how to play the piano and how to dance at the request of her parents in order to form good habits, create discipline, and increase her chances of studying at a good college later in life.

But she also grew up watching many Hollywood movies, mainly those featuring her native hero – Jackie Chan. That led her to start Muay Thai in her late teens, merely for exercise. But her motives took a turn when she was invited into the ring for a sparring session where her natural talents shone through.

Yu impressed her coaches with her striking fundamentals. Showing great promise, she began to compete and win on a regular basis by using her aggressive style. And after the results began to pile up, she formed a passion for competition and her life was changed.

Much to the behest of her parents, Yu quit university to chase her dreams of becoming a full-time Muay Thai fighter. 

She began competing in the weekly ONE Friday Fights series in 2023. And after four knockout wins in five fights, the Chinese striker won a lucrative US$100,000 contract to ONE Championship. 

Yu has quickly developed a reputation as a deadly striker who can end a contest at any given moment. And she’ll continue to utilize that trait on her quest for the ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Title.
