Shoma “The Destroyer of the Gale” Okumura is a Japanese kickboxer from Osaka who has developed into an exciting presence in ONE Championship’s strawweight kickboxing division. Representing Team Teppen, he combines a strong boxing foundation with sharp movement, quick combinations, and intelligent counter-striking.
Okumura’s martial arts journey began when he was just 3 years old. Walking past a Kyokushin karate gym, he became curious about the discipline and decided to try it. That simple childhood encounter sparked a passion that would eventually lead him into professional competition.
The Osaka native won karate tournaments throughout middle school before shifting his focus to boxing. The change proved pivotal, as Okumura went on to capture a gold medal in the men’s 60-kilogram boxing division at the East Asian Youth Games, adding an important accomplishment to his amateur career.
Determined to test himself in kickboxing, Okumura made his professional debut in January 2024 while still attending high school. He sharpened his skills on Japan’s domestic circuit, where he also distinguished himself in the Stand Up organization’s King of Rookie tournament.
His progress earned him an opportunity to compete in ONE Championship in October 2025. Okumura made an explosive first impression, scoring three knockdowns on his way to a first-round TKO of Alfie Lynch. His speed, timing, and fluid punches immediately stood out on the global stage.
He followed that breakthrough with three more victories over international opponents, and the run earned him a life-changing US$100,000 contract with ONE Championship in May 2026. It also marked a turning point, transforming his promise into an opportunity to compete amongst the organization’s top athletes.
After experiencing his first promotional setback, Okumura bounced back in impressive fashion at ONE SAMURAI 4, where he outclassed former two-division RISE Champion Toki Tamaru. The performance displayed the composure and tactical maturity he had built through years of competition.
Now established on ONE Championship’s global roster, Okumura continues refining his craft alongside Team Teppen’s accomplished athletes. His combination of technical boxing, clever angles, and competitive determination gives him a strong foundation as he pursues greater success in the world’s largest martial arts organization.
