Tye Ruotolo To Defend Welterweight Submission Grappling Gold Against Pawel Jaworski At ONE Fight Night 41
A welterweight submission grappling World Title match has been announced for ONE Fight Night 41 on Prime Video, as reigning king Tye Ruotolo is set to defend his throne against Polish challenger Pawel Jaworski.
The high-stakes 10-minute grappling showdown will go down on Friday, March 13, live in U.S. primetime from Bangkok’s iconic Lumpinee Stadium.
Ruotolo represents the present and future of modern-day grappling. Alongside his twin brother and fellow superstar, reigning ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Champion Kade Ruotolo, the 22-year-old American has established himself as one of the sport’s most dynamic competitors.
The California native has left a trail of excellence in the world’s largest martial arts organization. His immaculate 4-0 start against elite-level opposition culminated in his coronation as the inaugural World Champion at ONE Fight Night 16 in November 2023.
There, Ruotolo delivered a dominant display against Russia’s Magomed Abdulkadirov, securing the 26 pounds of gold via unanimous decision after 10 minutes of excellence.
At ONE Fight Night 21 in April 2024, the Atos product displayed creative brilliance in his first World Title defense, which came against Izaak Michell. Ruotolo conquered his rival with an innovative head-and-arm choke variation later dubbed the “Ruotolo-tine” for the submission finish at the 4:43 mark.
A few months later, Ruotolo displayed textbook jiu-jitsu at ONE Fight Night 23, defeating the tough Jozef Chen via unanimous decision in another non-title bout.
Then he went to war with Dante Leon at ONE Fight Night 31 in May 2025. The pair entered the matchup with one win apiece in their heated rivalry, adding an extra layer of intensity.
Ruotolo showcased fundamental passing excellence and suffocating top pressure to neutralize the Canadian’s dangerous guard, retaining his championship via unanimous decision.
The youngest IBJJF World Champion then ventured into new horizons and transitioned to the mixed martial arts realm.
Ruotolo showed no fear in his first appearance donning the four-ounce gloves, handing Adrian “The Phenom” Lee his first career loss with a second-round rear-naked choke at ONE Fight Night 35 in September.
Two months later, he made a quick turnaround at ONE 173, snapping Shozo “Great Teacher” Isojima‘s perfect 6-0 record with another rear-naked choke submission in the opening round.
Now 2-0 in mixed martial arts, the champion returns to his grappling roots to face a hungry challenger determined to seize the throne.
Jaworski earned his World Title opportunity by tearing through the European grappling scene with ruthless efficiency.
The impressive 21-year-old racked up an incredible array of accolades in his first year as a black belt. He captured the 2025 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship at 85 kilograms last December, cementing his status as one of the sport’s brightest young talents.
The Polish phenom also claimed double gold at the IBJJF No-Gi Euros, winning both his weight class and the absolute division. His submission prowess was on full display throughout the tournament, finishing seven of nine opponents.
Beyond tournament success, Jaworski brings elite-level experience into his ONE Championship debut. The Academia Gorila affiliate holds notable victories over respected BJJ veterans PJ Barch and Devhonte Johnson outside the promotion.
His submission-first approach and devastating leg-lock expertise make him a dangerous puzzle for any opponent. That aggressive style matches perfectly against Ruotolo’s chaotic scrambling ability and relentless finishing instincts.
On March 13, two of grappling’s most explosive talents collide to determine who stands atop the welterweight submission grappling world.
