‘My Goal Is To Knock Him Out’ – Adam Expects To Finish Mohammed In Muay Thai Rematch At ONE Friday Fights 116

Adam Sor Dechapan and Nahyan Mohammed face off

Malaysian-Thai standout Adam Sor Dechapan left a lasting impression in his promotional debut a few months ago, and his fire to perform has only intensified ahead of his return in the main event of ONE Friday Fights 116.

The 17-year-old sensation will lock horns with “Petsam” Nahyan Mohammed in a 112-pound Muay Thai rematch, which will air live in Asia primetime from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium on July 18.

If their first showdown was any indication, then this second battle should excite the Thai faithful inside the iconic arena and fans watching around the globe.

This past May, Adam bagged a split-decision victory over the French-Algerian standout at ONE Friday Fights 107, but the contest was so close, it could have possibly gone the other way.

The pair traded strikes all throughout the match, landing their shots with insane power and precision for nine action-packed minutes.

Adam, however, admitted that he didn’t perform to the best of his ability. The Malaysian-Thai teen star felt some butterflies during their initial encounter, but now, he’s completely dialed in and focused on delivering a better performance in the Thai capital.

He said:

“I felt a bit nervous during the first fight. But for this second fight, which is the rematch, I’m confident I’ll do much better than the first time.

“My main goal is to perform better than I did in the previous fight. For this second fight, I’ll try to increase my speed in throwing punches and kicks. I’m also going to increase the speed of my combinations.”

Given how tough Mohammed proved to be when they traded leather the last time out, Adam – the younger brother of strawweight Muay Thai contender Aliff Sor Dechapan – has left no stone unturned in his bid to secure a more decisive win inside the “Madison Square Garden of the East.”

Besides adding more speed to his explosive repetoire, the teen wonder has been tightening his defense at Sor Dechapan in Khet Chatuchak, Thailand.

Though he’s confident that a more well-rounded strategy will be the solution to stopping the Petch Muay Thai Gym representative’s attacks, Adam vows not to bite more than he can chew.

Adam explained:

“I am also focused on conditioning and making sure I can defend my body better because in the last fight, I felt like I took a lot of shots to the body, and it was very hard for me to recover.

“The plan for this fight is to wait, observe, and counter every attack or pressure. I’ll try to control the distance between us, using my footwork to move in and out. Once I land an attack, I’ll step back out.”

Should all go according to plan, the Muay Thai sensation is confident he will get his hand raised against his 16-year-old opponent, move his career record to 52-5, and take another massive step toward a life-changing US$100,000 contract to compete on ONE Championship’s global roster.

And this time, Adam doesn’t expect to leave Lumpinee Stadium with a decision. He intends to walk out of the iconic arena with a highlight-reel victory and a performance bonus.

Adam said:

“In this fight, I’ll try my best to get a knockout. I’ll be looking for opportunities to knock out my opponent at the right moment.

“I’ll wait for the right moment. If there’s an opportunity for a knockout, I’ll go for it. My goal is to knock him out in either the first or second round.”

Adam Draws Inspiration From His Big Brother, Aliff

Thankfully for the young Malaysian-Thai martial artist, he doesn’t have to look too far for inspiration.

Adam’s older brother, Aliff Sor Dechapan, enjoyed a ferocious run in ONE Friday Fights, where he rattled off four wins – including three via knockout – to earn a lucrative six-figure contract.

The 21-year-old has continued to leave a lasting impression on the organization’s U.S. primetime cards and numbered events. In fact, he is currently riding a four-bout winning streak.

Those performances have firmly positioned him as the next possible challenger for two-sport king Prajanchai PK Saenchai‘s ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship.

While Adam certainly has plenty of catching up to do to follow in the footsteps of his oldest sibling, he’s making the most of his opportunity to train alongside the strawweight Muay Thai contender throughout his fight camp for Mohammed.

Adam said:

“I’ve been training with my brother every day to get myself ready for this match. He has helped me prepare various techniques and self-defense methods. I might even share about 10 percent of my bonus with him.”
