Anissa Meksen To Face Jackie Buntan For Inaugural Women’s Strawweight Kickboxing World Title At ONE Fight Night 23

Anissa Meksen Jackie Buntan

The first-ever ONE Women’s Strawweight Kickboxing World Champion will be crowned in the main event of ONE Fight Night 23 on Prime Video.

Anissa “C18” Meksen and Jackie Buntan have agreed to square off for the division’s inaugural gold in U.S. primetime on Friday, July 5, live from Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Meksen is one of the most decorated women’s strikers of all time, consistently sitting atop the pound-for-pound rankings for almost a decade.

“C18” has earned plenty of notable accolades in that time, including World Championships in both kickboxing and Muay Thai, but she wants to crown her illustrious career with the biggest of them all.

After coming up short against “The Queen” Phetjeeja for the ONE Interim Women’s Atomweight Kickboxing World Title last December, the French-Algerian superstar has another chance to add 26 pounds of ONE gold.

In the other corner, Buntan feels ready to reach the next level against a legend like Meksen.

The Filipino-American entered ONE with a lot of hype, and she has constantly backed it up with some incredible performances en route to a 6-1 slate.

Buntan’s lone defeat came when she faced Smilla “The Hurricane” Sundell for the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai World Title, but she’s amassed a trio of impressive victories since then, showcasing her continued evolution.

The California resident is determined to follow in the footsteps of her recently retired teammate, Janet “JT” Todd, who held ONE gold in both kickboxing and Muay Thai.

This matchup represents a clash of generations, as the 35-year-old Meksen takes on the 26-year-old Buntan, who is aiming for the first World Title of her career.

Despite being nine years older than her opponent, “C18” still feels at the top of her game and wants to prove she remains one of the finest strikers on the planet, while Buntan is preparing to battle her highest-profile foe to date.

Inside the ring, the intense pressure styles of both women should lead to a thrilling battle that crowns the first queen of the strawweight kickboxing ranks.
