Newly-Married Christian Lee Recalls His ‘Perfect’ Wedding

Christian “The Warrior” Lee had his breakthrough year in 2019.

The Singaporean kicked off the proceedings by earning redemption against Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, and then he moved up a division and finished Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki to claim the ONE Lightweight World Title.

He topped the year off by entering the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix Championship Final and beating Saygid “Dagi” Guseyn Arslanaliev for the tournament’s silver belt.

But even with all of that success, it pales in comparison to the start of his 2020.

On Tuesday, 25 February, Lee married his high school sweetheart, Katie, in Haleiwa, Hawaii, USA.

When “The Warrior” saw his bride walking down the aisle in her wedding dress, he was overwhelmed with a flood of emotions.

“We’ve been together since high school. We’re going on our seventh year since we first met,” he explains.

“Just seeing her walking down the aisle, I could see all the years we’ve been together in one moment. It was a very special moment for me. I was completely overwhelmed with joy.”

When Lee woke up on his wedding day, he was cloaked in his family’s love and support.

Soon, the ONE Lightweight World Champion went to the gorgeous Waimea Valley in the North Shore of Oahu, wore a dashing white suit, and exchanged vows with his bride.

The outdoor ceremony went even better than the mixed martial arts superstar had anticipated.

“My family was so supportive all the way through. I had my baby brother [Adrian] there as my best man,” the Evolve representative says.

“It was a great day. I didn’t know how the wedding was going to play out, but it was as perfect as I could have imagined it to be.”

After the two said “I do” to each other and were pronounced husband and wife, the beautiful outdoor ceremony transformed into a wonderful outdoor reception in the same magnificent location.

The atmosphere was jubilant in Waimea Valley, and both the happy couple and their guests – including Lee’s sister, ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee and her husband Bruno Pucci – thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“I was really glad to see that everybody was having a great time,” the lightweight king says. “They were happy, laughing, and dancing. I feel like everyone there was having a great time. That was very special.”

Something else that was special was the new blissfully married couple’s first dance. The song they chose for the occasion was “Heaven” by Bryan Adams.

“We love older music. It was definitely one of the classics, and we both like what the song is about,” the 21-year-old continues. “We’ve been very blessed with our lives together and with each other, and it does feel like being in heaven when we’re together.”

The reception continued with the dinner portion, which featured ribeye steak with all the trimmings.

Following the amazing meal and some more celebrating, Lee and his new wife brought an end to the festivities. The two bid farewell to their guests and went to Turtle Bay just 15 minutes away from their wedding locale.

“The day wrapped up with a bunch of dancing,” he explains. “Everyone was having a good time, and once we shut it down, my wife and I headed back to our hotel.”

As Adams might say, love was all that they needed, and they found it in each other’s hearts. As their love continues to grow through marriage, they will continue to have heaven on Earth.
