Shihaishinkai Karate Champion Anatpong Bunrad was born in a small village in Nong Bua Lamphu, a province in Thailand’s northern region of Isan, which is known for producing top-level Muay Thai fighters. As a child, he moved to Belgium and grew up in Brussels. However, family turmoil, as well as adapting to a new language and culture, led to a troubled youth, which would only improve once he began training in martial arts.
Bunrad picked up judo at the age of 10, and would also train in Muay Thai at a local gym whenever his mother brought him back to Thailand to visit. He soon added a hybrid style of karate to his repertoire called Shihaishinkai, a style of knockdown karate that includes striking, throws, and ground fighting, ultimately receiving his black belt in 2007.
After an impressive amateur kickboxing record of 16-2, Bunrad made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2010, and soon caught the attention of ONE Championship. Competing against Asia’s finest martial artists, Bunrad has since picked up impressive wins over Marc Marcellinus and Geje Eustaquio, and continues his quest for a World Championship.
