‘Dogs Are Better Than People’ – Liam Harrison Opens Up About His Beloved German Shepherd
There’s one surefire way to get yourself into Liam “Hitman” Harrison’s bad books.
The British Muay Thai legend – who will return against Thai star Seksan Or Kwanmuang at ONE 168: Denver on September 6 – is a huge dog lover, and if you’re not, then you’re just not on the same wavelength.
Harrison is currently in the final stages of preparation for his battle with Seksan in the United States, and spending time with his dog, Luna, is his favorite way to relax outside of the stresses of fight camp.
“Hitman” told onefc.com:
“Dogs are better than people. If Earth was run by dogs, it’d be a much better place.
“I love my dog. She’s a German shepherd called Luna, and my mum and dad have her brother, Cooper. He’s an absolute beast. I love them both.
“If there’s someone who doesn’t like dogs, I immediately think there is something weird about it. There’s some sort of serial killer vibes coming from that – you can’t ever trust them.”
Luna is as much an integral part of Harrison’s day as Muay Thai, and every morning starts with the pair heading out together.
When he’s not in the gym, they’re inseparable, and he gains so much from their relationship that he can’t envision life without her:
“Every morning, I get up, and the first thing I do is I go straight out the door with Luna for a walk for like an hour. In between training, she always comes with me wherever I go. If I’m going for a coffee, I’ll take her with me. If I’m going to the pub for a pint, she comes with me.
“She’s a bit like a service dog to me. If I’m feeling a bit [down], she always cheers me up. They’re just the best.
“I will never have a house without a German shepherd in it from now until the day I die. They’re the best animals.”
Harrisons Explains Luna’s ‘Unconditional Love’
Liam Harrison gets plenty of benefits from his pet dog, Luna, but he sees one key feature that separates them from humans.
While people can be challenging and sometimes detrimental to your well-being, “Hitman” believes a canine companion will never let you down as long as you treat them right:
“A dog will never judge you. It’s unconditional love. No matter what you do, they’ll always be there for you. All you’ve got to do is show them a little love back, and they’ll be by your side forever.”
Although his greatest pleasure is the companionship he gets from Luna, the globe-trotting fighter often finds himself away from home.
With that in mind, Harrison also knows that Luna will protect his loved ones.
He added:
“Because I travel a lot and I’m away, she’s a great guard dog. I know that when [my partner] Kate is in the house, she’s always gonna be looked after, and no one’s gonna get in the house.”
