‘Who Wouldn’t Want To Fight Her?’ — Teshya Noelani Alo Relishes Rematch With Teenage Prodigy Helena Crevar At ONE Fight Night 39
Teshya Noelani Alo can’t wait to make her first walk to the ONE Championship ring against an opponent she holds in high regard.
The 28-year-old Hawaiian star will face 18-year-old IBJJF World Champion Helena Crevar in a bantamweight submission grappling showdown at ONE Fight Night 39: Rambolek vs. Dayakaev on Prime Video, which goes down live in U.S. primetime on Friday, January 23, from the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Alo has tremendous respect for Crevar, whom she faced once before. So when she discovered she would take on the teenage prodigy in her promotional debut, she jumped at the opportunity without hesitation.
The Island Jiu-Jitsu representative told onefc.com:
“Well, honestly, I got a call from my professor, and he said, ‘Do you want to fight Helena?’ I’m like, ‘Oh, duh, who wouldn’t want to fight her? She’s amazing.'”
For Alo, this matchup represents the culmination of a lifetime spent on the mats. The Hawaii native built her foundation as a wrestling and judo prodigy, later transitioning to BJJ.
Now, after winning three ADCC Open Championships in 2025 alone and making her way to the world’s largest martial arts organization, she’s ready to test herself against one of the sport’s brightest stars.
Alo knows the massive opportunity that lies before her, facing off against arguably the best female grappler in the game today. But the Hawaiian is confident her previous experience grappling with Crevar gives her an insight into her opponent’s perceived weakness:
“Well, I honestly think her strength — she’s overall [very] strong. But if I were to pick a position where I don’t feel like she’s her strongest, [it’s] maybe standing.
“That’s only because I’m talking from a wrestling perspective. She’s obviously a jiu-jitsu [fighter], a grappler. So that would be the only thing.”
Alo’s wrestling pedigree is formidable. Her dynamic single-leg and double-leg attacks, combined with explosive judo throws and trips, have become her calling card. That top-heavy game could prove to be the difference-maker against Crevar.
She also doesn’t mind heading into this matchup as the underdog. In fact, she has already embraced that role with the quiet confidence of someone who’s spent her entire life competing against bigger, stronger opponents.
What’s important to her is that she puts on the best performance of her life:
“I know it’s going to be so fun. Like, I’m just so excited. I’m so excited for a high level, elite athlete. It’s gonna be so fun to test my skills.”
Alo Won’t Back Down From Crevar’s Leg Lock Arsenal
Teshya Noelani Alo has studied Helena Crevar’s game extensively prior to their upcoming matchup at ONE Fight Night 39. She knows the John Danaher-trained prodigy will be incredibly strong and dangerous with her leg game.
Crevar is known for her devastating leg locks, with heel hooks and leg attacks forming a significant portion of her submission arsenal, a stat that would make any opponent approach with caution.
But Alo is ready to meet the Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu product anywhere on the mat. She’s confident that she has put in enough work in the gym to handle Crevar’s high-level techniques:
“I just do jiu-jitsu, my body feels very comfortable flowing and I know what I have to work on because I know what her strengths are, which, for me, it’s everything, but specifically, legs, obviously.”
The Hawaiian’s wrestling-based approach emphasizes crushing top pressure and suffocating control — a style that could neutralize Crevar’s guard game if executed properly.
Both women are making their first appearance on the global stage in ONE, so naturally, there’s pressure on both sides. Whatever the result of their match, Alo is confident that when the action begins, she will hold nothing back.
No matter the odds, Alo knows she has a legitimate chance of scoring one of the biggest victories of her career at ONE Fight Night 39:
“This fight is gonna end with many opportunities for both of us. It’s gonna be a very exciting match. It’s gonna be two really high-level athletes just doing what they love, because at the end of the day, we’re just two girls on a big mat doing jiu-jitsu.”
