‘She Will Have A Problem Against Me’ – Martyna Dominczak Ready To Stun Phetjeeja At ONE Fight Night 38

WMC Muay Thai World Champion Martyna Dominczak didn’t come to ONE Championship to blend in. The Polish striker came to shock the world – and on Friday, December 5, she gets the perfect stage to attempt exactly that.

The 23-year-old faces ONE Women’s Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion “The Queen” Phetjeeja at ONE Fight Night 38: Andrade vs. Baatarkhuu on Prime Video, which broadcasts live in U.S. primetime from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dominczak understands exactly what she’ll be up against in this high-stakes atomweight Muay Thai battle.

Phetjeeja enters their clash riding a perfect 7-0 record in ONE with three successive World Title victories in kickboxing and four back-to-back highlight-reel triumphs in Muay Thai.

But rather than shrink from the moment, the Legion Glogow representative embraces it:

“This is the biggest challenge in my career because Phetjeeja is a really accomplished fighter. She’s world-class. She’s undefeated in ONE Championship. She’s also a champion in kickboxing.”

That confidence stems from extensive preparation. Martyna and her longtime coach-turned-husband, Maciej, have studied the fellow WMC World Champion’s world-class arsenal.

While impressed, the Polish bruiser believes her unique style presents problems the Thai star hasn’t encountered before.

The 23-year-old told onefc.com:

“I think Phetjeeja has many great strengths. She has great boxing, kickboxing, and good footwork, but she has never fought against someone like me.

“I’m fast. I go forward in my fights, but also, I can [counterstrike as well] as I showed with Yu Yau Pui. My style is not just the typical Thai style, nor is it a typical kickboxing style. It is a mix of everything. So I think she will have a problem against me.”

That stylistic advantage has helped her claim three impressive wins in ONE, including a sensational second-round TKO of Nat “Wondergirl” Jaroonsak in her debut last year, which earned her a US$50,000 performance bonus.

In addition, the Polish fighter believes the rule set works in her favor. Phetjeeja has competed under kickboxing rules in three of her last fights, most recently defending her gold against former K-1 Champion Kana “Krusher Queen” Morimoto at ONE 172 in Saitama, Japan.

With that tactical advantage identified, Dominczak believes victory is within reach:

“Of course, she has many more fights in pro Muay Thai than me because she started very young. But now, in the past years, she had three fights in kickboxing. So maybe it will be harder for her.

“But I want to shock the fans and many people and show that even if I’m the underdog, I will beat her. I want to be #1 in the atomweight division right now. I know it very clearly.”

Dominczak Believes ONE World Title Shot Is Within Reach

Martyna Dominczak believes that victory over Phetjeeja positions her as the next warrior in line to challenge reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues.

That prize motivates every training session, sacrifice, and moment leading into ONE Fight Night 38 on December 5.

The Polish striker offered:

“I’m almost sure that the one who wins this fight will be the contender for the belt with Allycia. I’m super excited for this. This also gives me a bigger motivation to beat Phetjeeja and to show that I’m at the top level right now.

“Phetjeeja is just a step, you know? I have to beat her to be a step closer to the belt. I’m super excited to fight her because I’m someone who can give a great fight with her.”

The prospect of fighting for Muay Thai’s most coveted prize and becoming Poland’s first World Champion in the organization represents a dream Dominczak and her husband-coach have chased together for years.

Despite the magnitude of what victory could bring, the 23-year-old refuses to look past the immediate challenge standing between her and that opportunity inside the Mecca of Muay Thai.

She concluded:

“The chance to fight for the ONE World Title is exciting for [my husband and I]. But I’m not pressured right now or even thinking about this now because I’m fully focused on Phetjeeja. After this, we will see what will be. But at the end, in my head, maybe the next fight will be the title shot.”
