Phetjeeja To Defend Atomweight Kickboxing World Title Against Kana At ONE 172 In Japan

A fifth World Title fight has been added to ONE Championship’s blockbuster return to Japan.

On Sunday, March 23, reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion “The Queen” Phetjeeja Lookjaoporongtom will defend her belt against Japanese knockout artist Kana “Krusher Queen” Morimoto at ONE 172: Takeru vs. Rodtang.

The high-profile showdown will take place on the challenger’s home turf at the famed Saitama Super Arena in Japan.

Undefeated across six thrilling appearances in ONE, the 23-year-old Phetjeeja is perhaps the striking world’s most dominant titleholder, boasting an astonishing 208-6 professional record.

After rattling off four straight stoppage wins to begin her ONE tenure, the Thai earned a decision over all-time kickboxing great Anissa “C18” Meksen to claim the ONE Women’s Interim Kickboxing World Title.

Phetjeeja returned a few months later for a World Title unification clash against Janet Todd at ONE Fight Night 20. She would display excellent technique and a seemingly endless gas tank to secure a clear-cut decision victory over the American superstar and become the undisputed atomweight kickboxing queen.

The titleholder is now in for another difficult test against Kana at ONE 172.

The 32-year-old Japanese sensation is a former K-1 Champion renowned for her thunderous punching power.

Kana arrived in ONE as a decorated veteran with loads of hype behind her but dropped a decision against Meksen in her promotional debut.

Last month at ONE Friday Fights 95, “Krusher Queen” bounced back to the win column with a sterling performance against Swedish phenom Moa Carlsson. That victory proved what many already suspected – Kana is ready for a crack at 26 pounds of gold.

While Phetjeeja has looked practically untouchable so far, Kana has the one-punch power and elite-level experience needed to end the Thai’s reign of terror. Plus, the challenger will have a partisan Japanese crowd behind her when she steps into the ring.
