Chiseled And Built To Win: How Suablack Engineered A Body Made For Destruction
Some fighters are known for their technique — others for their power. Thai slugger Suablack Tor Pran49 is known for all of the above, and also for a pair of legs that look like they were borrowed from the statue of a Greek God.
The NP Suablack affiliate has carved out a reputation as one of ONE Championship’s most exciting knockout artists, but it is his jaw-dropping physique that has fans marvelling between fights.
This Friday, March 13, live in U.S. primetime, Suablack will bring his chiseled body to Bangkok’s revered Lumpinee Stadium, where he will face undefeated Japanese dynamo Hyu in flyweight kickboxing action at ONE Fight Night 41: Sinsamut vs. Jarvis on Prime Video.
The foundation of his build wasn’t laid in a gym. Suablack is a Thai striker of Karen descent, one of Thailand’s ethnic communities. The mountains he called home growing up had a simple rule: hills up, hills down, every single day.
He told ONE:
“I grew up in the mountains. My family, and most Karen people actually, naturally have big leg muscles because we’re always hiking up and down the hills.
“But since I’m a pro fighter and I’m a total gym rat, my muscles have become even more defined and stand out.”
The mountains gave him the base but ONE Friday Fights gave him the wake-up call.
When the world’s largest martial arts organization launched the weekly series in January 2023, Suablack recognized that raw size and power weren’t enough to succeed at the highest level. Foreign fighters were arriving just as ripped, but more athletic and engineered with modern-day sports science.
The 5-foot-6 knockout artist recalled:
“Back in the day, I had some muscle, but it wasn’t shaped like this. My legs were just big without much definition.
“Once ONE Friday Fights launched in Thailand, I realized that just having big muscles wasn’t enough. I needed functional, rock-solid strength to keep up with the foreign fighters in this organization.”
It was this realization that reshaped his entire approach, and one that may have played a direct role in eight of his wins in ONE since he debuted at ONE Friday Fights 20 in June 2023.
Suablack understood that size without purpose was just bulk. What he needed and what he set out to build was a body engineered to compete among the world’s best.
For the 29-year-old, the philosophy behind all of it goes beyond just looking good at the weigh-ins or during fights. It is about survival in a sport that has no patience for fighters who refuse to evolve:
“These days, muscle development is crucial because foreign opponents are huge. They have [a very low percentage of] body fat, so their weight on the scale is pure muscle. If we just stick to old-school training and don’t watch our diet or hit our protein goals, we’re going to be at a massive disadvantage, physically.
“That’s why modern fighters need to embrace sports science and proper nutrition. It ensures every part of your body is strong so you don’t get out-muscled by foreign fighters when you step into the ring.”
Achieve A Physique Like Suablack’s
The blueprint behind Suablack Tor Pran49’s insane build starts with a principle most gym-goers get wrong. For the Thai slugger, bigger isn’t better. It’s about being sharper on all fronts.
Three to five sessions a week, and not a single one of them wasted chasing numbers that don’t matter inside the ring.
He explained:
“My secret is combining weight training with bodyweight exercises about three to five times a week. I don’t go super heavy. Instead, I focus on high reps to build endurance.
“I also do plenty of cardio – running alongside my boxing drills – to keep the muscles as lean as possible.”
Outside of the gym, the work doesn’t stop. The NP Suablack martial artist is just as deliberate about what he puts on his plate as he is about what happens on the training floor.
His dietary approach isn’t rigid year-round, but it is always conscious. And when a fight is on the horizon, that consciousness transforms into something closer to obsession.
The 29-year-old continued:
“When it comes to my diet, if I don’t have a fight coming up, I pretty much eat normally, but I prioritize high protein and moderate carbs.
“When I’m in camp, I switch to clean eating and take two scoops of whey protein a day. I aim for about 1.5 to 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight to maintain my muscle mass, and I make sure to get plenty of sleep.”
The training methods are serious. The diet is meticulous. But when the subject turns to his favorite muscle groups, Suablack doesn’t need much convincing to open up.
He ticked off his top three without a moment’s hesitation, and by the time number one arrived, it felt less like a reveal and more like a formality.
After all, this is a man whose thighs have more muscle than most flyweights carry on their entire body:
“Number three has to be the shoulders. It makes my guard look cool. My favorite move for that is the reverse cable fly. Meanwhile, at number two is the abs – mostly because they help with the ladies! My favorite exercise for these is the L-sit on a pull-up bar.
“And my absolute favorite has to be my legs. They’re my trademark, and I think that’s what the fans like most about me, too. My favorite moves are lunges followed by explosive single-leg jumps.”
