ONE Friday Fights 157 Co-Main Event Result: Xavier Gonzalez Finishes Payaksurin With Devastating Counter Left Hook

Xavier Gonzalez scored the most emphatic victory of his ONE Championship career with a thunderous one-punch knockout of Payaksurin JP Power in the co-main event of ONE Friday Fights 157. The flyweight Muay Thai bout went down Friday, June 5, live in Asia primetime from Bangkok’s iconic Lumpinee Stadium. 

It was far from a straightforward night for the Tor Sangtiennoi affiliate. His 21-year-old Thai opponent tested him early, peppering him with a barrage of left high kicks and keeping him on the outside with a stabbing push kick that disrupted his rhythm.

Despite the early assault, the 24-year-old Spaniard stuck to his game plan. He stayed patient, working behind pistol-like jabs and refusing to be drawn into a firefight. Payaksurin continued to press, going high repeatedly with that punishing left kick, and it looked as though Gonzalez’s guard might eventually crack.

Gonzalez, though, was simply biding his time, quietly reading the rhythm of his opponent’s strikes.

When Payaksurin launched another head kick, Gonzalez was one step ahead. He detonated with a counter left hook that landed flush on the chin and dropped his opponent in a heap. A dazed Payaksurin tried to rise but crumpled into the ropes, and the referee waved it off at 1:08 of the opening round.

Emotion poured out of Gonzalez at the final bell. The breakthrough result snapped a two-fight skid, giving him his 26th win and most resounding victory in the weekly series.
