ONE Friday Fights 149 Main Event Result: Tomyamkoong Starches Bejenuta Maximus With Third Round TKO
Tomyamkoong Bhumjaithai delivered a relentless yet patient performance to stop Bejenuta “Gladiator” Maximus via TKO at 1:41 of round three in the flyweight Muay Thai main event at ONE Friday Fights 149 on April 3.
Tomyamkoong established his game plan early in this Asia primetime fixture inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. He welted the right side of Maximus’ arm and torso with sharp left kicks.
The 24-year-old debutant was anything but easy to pin down, bouncing in and out of range on light feet, throwing unorthodox punches in flashes to try and steal the round. But Tomyamkoong stayed composed, picking his shots and refusing to be drawn into chaos.
Maximus kept moving in the second, side-stepping and countering with single punches and kicks before darting out of reach. Tomyamkoong, however, tracked him until he found his opening, folding his opponent with a straight right to the body that buckled the knees.
By the third round, the Moldovan standout was running. On the other hand, Tomyamkoong stayed sharp and methodical, cutting off the ring until he finally caught up with his man and sent him down with a fierce left hand down the middle.
Maximus beat the eight-count, but it was a brief reprieve. Tomyamkoong flew into the clinch and unleashed a relentless barrage of knees and elbows until the referee stepped in to end it.
Tomyamkoong upped his victory count to 127, stringing together three straight wins and cementing himself as one of the flyweight division’s most dangerous rising forces.
