ONE Friday Fights 127 Results: Worapon Stops Kongkula, Shumarov Ends Karpinski In First Round
ONE Friday Fights 127 lit up Bangkok, Thailand, on October 3, as hungry prospects and battle-tested warriors delivered a night full of highlight-reel action.
Broadcasting live in Asia primetime, the card saw several athletes edge closer to the coveted US$100,000 main roster contract, with quick stoppages and wild firefights that captivated those in attendance and fight fans worldwide.
Before attention shifts to ONE Fight Night 36: Prajanchai vs. Di Bella II on Prime Video in a few hours, here’s a recap from the main event and the featured fight from the Thai capital city this past Friday.
Worapon Floors Kongkula Thrice For Fourth Win In A Row
Thai striking ace Worapon Lukjaoporongtom dropped Kongkula Jitmuangnon three times en route to an early TKO victory in their 142-pound Muay Thai main event showdown.
The 22-year-old countered his foe’s push kick with a dizzying left cross for the first knockdown. Kongkula may have regained his footing, but the Sor Dechapan warrior stood right in his face when action resumed to send him down for another eight-count.
Kongkula showed plenty of heart to peel himself off the canvas again, but a crushing right hook from Worapon delivered the third and final knockdown, which earned him the TKO at 2:49 of the opening frame.
His fourth straight win on ONE Friday Fights marked his 68th career triumph.
Shumarov’s Body Shot Folds Karpinski In Round One
Bogdan Shumarov returned to winning ways in style, stopping Maciej Karpinski with a brutal first-round knockout in their lightweight kickboxing bout.
Karpinski’s reach advantage kept him away from the Bulgarian slugger early on, but the latter eventually found a route through to unleash heavy one-twos to the body.
With Karpinski pinned to the ropes, Shumarov let a spinning backfist fly and followed it with a barrage of punches that dropped him for the count. Karpinski beat the call, but he looked worse for wear.
Sensing the finish, the 28-year-old Shumarov crumpled Karpinski for good with a venomous body shot at 2:40 of the opening round to move to 19-3 in his career and keep his 100 percent finishing rate in the promotion intact.
