Valdir Rodrigues is living his dream as a martial artist.
As a teenager, his father could not provide the financial support he needed to go to the gym. However, he stood by Valdir in other ways, which helped his son pursue his passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Valdir would later be part of Liga Jiu-Jitsu in Brazil, which produced former ONE Strawweight World Champion Alex “Little Rock” Silva and former ONE Bantamweight World Title challenger Leandro “Brodinho” Issa. It is also in this gym where he would earn his black belt under Erivaldo Junior.
Rodrigues competed regularly in submission grappling and earned plenty of awards along the way, including the Mundials World Championship bronze medal. Also, he is a Brazilian National Champion, a Pan American Champion, and a South American Champion.
Eventually, Rodrigues moved to Singapore to teach at Evolve MMA, where he joined a staff full of World Champion instructors. The Brazilian is also a father to his loving daughter, and he now supports his family through martial arts. However, his dream life is about to get bigger.
In 2022, he signed with ONE Championship to compete in the promotion’s submission grappling branch. Now, it looks like his childhood dream has only gotten better.
