About Mayssa Bastos
When Mayssa Bastos began her martial arts journey, she never thought that she would reach success in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu because her family raised her under another discipline.
Her father and elder brothers were judo practitioners, and by the age of 12, she was following closely in their footsteps. But she soon switched to BJJ and never looked back.
She achieved tremendous success in the sport, winning gold in all the major competitions. The Brazilian superstar is an nine-time IBJJF World Champion in both gi and no-gi, as well as a multiple-time Pan-American, Brazilian National, and European Champion.
Bastos, a BJJ black belt since 2018, joined ONE Championship in 2024 and faced Kanae Yamada in her promotional debut. Though her opposition was tough, the Brazilian won the match via unanimous decision.
With her first promotional contest dusted and done, Bastos’ sole focus was on becoming the ONE Women’s Atomweight Submission Grappling World Champion.
The Brazilian would accomplish that in August 2024, as she defeated inaugural titleholder Danielle Kelly via unanimous decision to claim the coveted 26 pounds of gold.
