Video Campaigns, Scavenger Hunts: ‘The Apprentice’ Episode 3 Recap

ONE Championship | April 1, 2021 |

After ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong sent a pair of Team Conquest candidates home in Episode 2 of “The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition,” the next chapter saw Team Valor continue its winning ways – but not for long.

After emerging victorious in this week’s physical challenge, Team Valor finally lost to Team Conquest – and because that defeat came in the business challenge, a member of the group was sent home.

Here’s what went down on Episode 3 of the toughest “Apprentice” in history.

A Shocking Swap

When the candidates met with Task Captain Dom Lau and reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee before the physical challenge, they received the surprising news that Team Valor would send two members to Team Conquest in order to level out the playing field.

This came after Team Conquest members Alvin Ang and Roman Wilson were both eliminated from the show on Episode 2.

With that, Dom announced that Chatri wanted Team Valor’s Jessica Ramella and Kexin Ye to join Team Conquest, while Lara Pearl Alvarez would switch to Team Valor.

‘Cubic’ Scavenger Hunt

Following that seismic shift, the 14 global candidates received their physical challenge – a scavenger hunt at the Singapore Sports Hub.

The teams would have to read clues, find seven blocks, and build a giant cube out of them. The first group to build the cube and have the logos of every block face the same direction would win.

The scavenger hunt also included runs and swims, and Team Conquest’s Paulina Purnomowati experienced an anxiety attack midway through her laps in the pool. Eventually, she regained her composure and continued.

Meanwhile, Louie Sangalang swam with all his might for Team Valor. He even received a compliment from Clinton Tudor, who said the Filipino candidate looked like “some sort of dolphin.”

Staying true to their dominant form, Team Valor emerged as the winners yet again. That meant Lara finally tasted victory, while Jessica and Kexin experienced defeat for the first time.

Digital Video Campaign

After both teams dusted themselves off, they met Chatri in the boardroom for their next business challenge, which turned out to be a digital video campaign for Golden Equator, an investment company based in Singapore.

The 90-second digital video campaign – which was intended to recruit potential entrepreneurs – would need to highlight the strong sense of community and international presence that Golden Equator is known for.

This time around, Team Valor choose Sho Takei as its Project Manager. Team Conquest picked Paulina – albeit with some pushback from Kexin.

The two Project Managers met with Golden Equator representatives, but back in the meeting room, Clinton and Teirra Kamolvattanavith clashed over who should manage the video efforts for Team Valor. In the end, the rest of Team Valor backed Teirra due to her video journalism background.

Once the teams finished creating their videos, it was time to present them.

The Big Pitch

Team Conquest pitched their video campaign first. Joy Koh and Jessica made the presentation very personal, talking about the journey of one entrepreneur and how Golden Equator would have his back.

Paulina then presented the campaign’s rollout plan, while Eugene said he wasn’t happy that his team wouldn’t listen to his ideas. Chatri, however, thought the presentation looked clean and well-prepared.

Valor pitched their video campaign next.

Louie immediately caught Chatri’s attention by asking if ONE’s Chairman and CEO remembers what it’s like to be a new entrepreneur. Irina made the presentation even more emotional when she talked about the power of believing in Golden Equator.

Still, Team Valor’s presentation seemed to lack real substance, and Clinton complained that his teammates didn’t include him in their efforts.

Monica capped off the presentation with a social media campaign but failed to deliver an actionable plan for the second straight episode. Finally, Lara took heat for not contributing much and for going to bed early when a project was due.

In The Boardroom

After the pitches, the candidates met Chatri and Advisor Niharika Singh in the boardroom for final feedback on this week’s business challenge.

Chatri praised Team Conquest for their plan, commenting that it had real substance. Niharika agreed that the team’s plan had depth, but noted that the pitch lacked emotion.

As for Team Valor, Chatri said the content in their presentation was weak and added that they included no execution plan. The members quickly ganged up on Clinton for his lack of teamwork and on Lara for choosing sleep over work.

Chatri declared Team Conquest the winners, giving the group its first victory since the show premiered.

The Chopping Block

Because Team Conquest finally won a business challenge, Team Valor had to send three of their members to the chopping block.

Sho had to go because he was the acting Project Manager for this week’s challenge. Meanwhile, he told Chatri that Clinton had contributed the least to the digital video campaign and that Lara had a limited skill set and neglected the challenge to get extra sleep.

With that, the three candidates faced Chatri and Niharika, who asked for responses before making a final decision.

Sho asked to remain on the show because he wants to continue being challenged. Clinton promised Chatri that he would correct his personal faults. And Lara made an emotional plea to stick around, saying her role as a single mother gives her inspiration.

After careful consideration, Chatri eliminated Lara, but not without his own heartfelt message. In that message, ONE’s Chairman and CEO told the Filipina to break free from her comfort zone.
