Teen Phenom Supergirl Hoping To Unleash Famed Knees In Debut

In just a few days, 16-year-old Supergirl Jaroonsak Muaythai will enter the ring and try to do what her older sister, Wondergirl Fairtex, has already accomplished twice in ONE Championship.

Supergirl is set for her promotional debut against Argentina’s Milagros Lopez at ONE: A NEW BREED II, a previously recorded event from Bangkok, Thailand, that will air this Friday, 11 September. The ONE Super Series Muay Thai catchweight bout will be contested at 53.7 kilograms.

Just like Wondergirl’s impressive victories at strawweight, the teenager could shake up the all-striking league’s atomweight Muay Thai division with a victory.

While watching footage of Lopez, who has previously competed for top promotions in Thailand, the Jaroonsak Muaythai representative realized that her ONE debut would be more challenging than expected.

For starters, the Argentine’s stance is unlike that of a traditional Thai fighter, which means she may not be as susceptible to being thrown off-balance by Supergirl’s potent knees. Second, Lopez will be very aggressive, so the Thai native must be ready to throw heat from the opening bell.

“She likes to move forward with punch combinations, and she’s strong and doesn’t give up easily,” the Bangkok resident says.

Although Supergirl will enter the fight with caution, she won’t be without a solid strategy.

The teenage striking sensation has been training with her father – a former professional Muay Thai fighter – and she believes his approach will allow her to carry the family legacy forward in the ring.

“My dad is the only trainer I have. He takes care of my training, nutrition, everything. He also taught me the game plan, so I know what I have to do in the ring even if he is there or not,” she says.

In terms of her game plan, does Supergirl have a specific weapon in mind that can stifle Lopez?

“I prepared my knees, punches, and elbows,” she says. “But not many kicks.”

The teen may not need them, as she owns some of the most dangerous knees in the sport.

Experts have dubbed them “stuffing knees” due to the way she lifts and drives them straight through her opponents’ stomachs, which often results in those adversaries being folded up like finished lawn chairs.

It’s clear Supergirl will be banking on that weapon come Friday night.

“I normally knock out my opponents by knee,” she says matter-of-factly. “I like to step and knee.”

Now, the youngest athlete to ever compete in ONE Super Series will step onto the global stage and try to finish yet another one of those opponents.

Lopez won’t be a pushover, but the Thai is confident she will make a strong first impression on the promotion’s worldwide audience.

“For this fight, I trained very hard,” Supergirl says. “I have so much hope and would like to impress the fans with my best performance.”
